Spatial Analysis Reflection

As me and my cohort members played the roles of silent observers in Peck Hall, we stumbled upon some intriguing patterns in people’s behavior. It was like watching a social science experiment unfold in front of us.

One thing that caught our attention was how the urgency people felt affected their actions. Those who weren’t in a rush tended to be more courteous, holding doors open for others behind them. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about the connection between one’s mindset and their behavior.

The hallways were alive with activity. Groups of students gathered, chatting animatedly, while others chose to go solo, lost in their own worlds with their headphones in. It was fascinating to see the variety of social dynamics at play, from lively group interactions to solitary contemplation.

The rhythm of the hallway seemed to change at certain times, especially around 12:00, 1:00, and 1:15—the typical end times for lectures. Suddenly, everyone seemed to be on the move, their pace quickening as if they were racing against the clock.

While none of these observations were groundbreaking, they did offer some insight into our own experiences at SIUE. The things we noticed didn’t specifically impact my experience here at SIUE as they were pretty casual and things I to do myself.

It was a reminder that even the most mundane aspects of college life can be rich with meaning when you take the time to observe and reflect.

In the end, our stint as silent observers left us with a newfound appreciation for the daily hustle and bustle of campus life. It was a simple yet enlightening exercise that reminded us to pay attention to the world around us, even in the midst of our own busy schedules.
