The Missouri Historical Society Library & Research Center presents its work via various channels and initiatives. They organize exhibitions that display important elements of Missouri’s history. They have different educational programs where individuals can participate in lectures, workshops, and seminars discussing historically significant subjects. The center publishes books, journals, research articles, and even collections of historical documents, all available to the general public. One initiative that they have that I think is cool is their outreach programs. They make an effort to engage with the community through partnerships and community-based organizations. The archive was founded in 1866 to collect, preserve, and interpret items related to the History of Missouri and the Mississippi Valley Region. The archive began with the acquisition of manuscripts, documents, books, and other historical materials that were donated or collected by the society’s members and supporters. Having knowledge on things such as authorship, historical context, social/cultural context, and provenance might make navigating the archives and understanding its contents easier. The archive can serve a plethora of audiences like historians, researchers, genealogists, and students. Because its contents are so grand, the amount and assortment of people who rely on it for whatever reasons naturally increases. The Missouri Historical Society Library & Research Center has a diverse selection of stakeholders since it is important to so many individuals and groups. Potential stakeholders may include local communities, government agencies, and even tribal nations/indigenous communities. Such a mixed range of potential stakeholders reflects its importance as a vessel of historical knowledge and cultural heritage for the state and region.
