Li’s E-portfolio for the Fall Semester

Introduction (Fall 24′) This semester has sharpened a lot of vital skills for success in college. Aaliyah’s Grade Contract CODES 221

1a) Demonstrates ability and commitment to collaboratively work across and within community contexts and structures. To me this means demonstrating the ability to actively contribute to the task or goal at hand regardless of the setting. I can demonstrate the achievement of this learning goal when visiting MOBOT, during our presentations, and when MOBOT members come to visit us here at SIUE.   2b) Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge. The Danger of a Single Story  Reflection

Adichie’s assertion that “many stories matter” holds profound implications for research in the social sciences and especially in CODES. Just as she emphasizes the importance of diverse narratives in literature, as researchers we must recognize the value of multiple perspectives and voices in shaping our understanding of social phenomena. Adopting a pluralistic approach to research allows us to capture the complexity and richness of human experiences, avoiding the pitfalls of the single story that can lead to stereotypes and misrepresentations. This is a issue that we see with the untold experiences of the slaves Henry Shaw owned. By embracing diverse methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches, and amplifying the voices…

The Missouri Historical Society Library & Research Center

The Missouri Historical Society Library & Research Center presents its work via various channels and initiatives. They organize exhibitions that display important elements of Missouri’s history. They have different educational programs where individuals can participate in lectures, workshops, and seminars discussing historically significant subjects. The center publishes books, journals, research articles, and even collections of historical documents, all available to the general public. One initiative that they have that I think is cool is their outreach programs. They make an effort to engage with the community through partnerships and community-based organizations. The archive was founded in 1866 to collect, preserve, and interpret items related to the History of Missouri and…

    Spatial Analysis Reflection

Aaliyah Lindsey 20 March 24   As me and my cohort members played the roles of silent observers in Peck Hall, we stumbled upon some intriguing patterns in people’s behavior. It was like watching a social science experiment unfold in front of us.   One thing that caught our attention was how the urgency people felt affected their actions. Those who weren’t in a rush tended to be more courteous, holding doors open for others behind them. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about the connection between one’s mindset and their behavior.  The hallways were alive with activity. Groups of students gathered, chatting animatedly, while others chose to go…
