Dear Dr. Shea,
In my first semester in the CODES program, I have faced numerous challenges both in and out of the classroom. As the semester progressed, I discovered more about myself than I ever imagined. I have given my full attention to my classwork and assumed new responsibilities that pushed me to now heights.
5A) Defines the scope of research questions effectively and selects information cogently to address them. (20%) In our first multimodal project, our ability to conduct valuable research was put to the test. Because of the unique nature of the topic I chose to write about, finding useful information was difficult. However, through determination and hard work, I was able to write about my selected topic and answer the question at hand.
3B) Recognizes multilayered ethical issues and the cross relationships among them. (30%) Source analysis #2 was a project which sought to describe ethics in problem solving and the ethical dilemmas that may arise when confronting a wicked problem. This project educated me on the potential risks and ethical issues presented when assessing a wicked problem. By completing this assignment, I show my understanding and respect of ethics and stakeholder integrity.
7B) Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom. (20%) With our numerous trips to JJKFaN as well as the Heartlands Conservatory, the expectation is that the knowledge of environmental equity and food equality should translate into our written work. In my Multimodal Composition, this understanding is on full display, as the project discusses local water degradation and pollution, as well as the effect this pollution had on the local ecosystem.
6C) Suspends judgment in interactions with people culturally different than themselves. (15%) As CODES is a collaborative workspace, an appreciation for my peers is crucial for confronting the problems we seek to solve in the program. This collaborative environment can be seen on the CODES Miro board, with both me and my peers expressing different viewpoints on the same topic.
6A) Articulates own cultural rules and biases and recognizes and responds to biases. (15%) With my unique position within CODES, my articulation of my own cultural background is important to my interactions with my peers. In source analysis #1, my unique writing style and rhetoric can be seen on full display, as I describe how the work effects myself. In addition to this, I also acknowledge the author of the work and how their experience influenced the work.
The following learning outcomes will allow me to succeed in CODES and beyond. These skills are more than just a grade, but a structure to live my life.
