REFLECTION #4
SPATIAL ANALYSIS
I explored various gyms in the Edwardsville area and found that the Student Success Center at SIUE is the closest option, approximately 0.7 miles away by car, 0.4 miles by foot, 0.5 miles by bike, or an 8-minute bus ride, according to Google Maps. The travel times are estimated to be around 3 minutes by car, 9 minutes by foot, and approximately 3 minutes by bike. Although I prefer working out at this gym daily, it’s not open 24/7. In such cases, I opt for Planet Fitness, which is not far, approximately a 9-minute car ride, a 1 hour and 12-minute walk, or a 23-minute bike ride. Despite numerous gym options in town, PF and SFC are the largest ones with the most equipment.
People’s choices regarding gyms can often be influenced by their financial situation, as off-campus options require membership and transportation. SFC remains the best option for those on campus, considering its accessibility and proximity. Other nearby gyms are easily reachable by car or public transport, and there are bike/run trails for safe commuting.
Walking to the gym has its advantages and disadvantages. If you decide to workout at SFC you are able to pick up a quick walk to get there, while off-campus ones require a longer walk but that won’t be a problem fo those who like to pick up a cardio session before lifting. The on-campus advantage is particularly beneficial for students without cars. Conversely, students living on campus with access to cars can conveniently drive to Planet Fitness or other options in Edwardsville if they prefer them over SFC.
