SOURCE ANALYSIS #1
ALEJANDRA BELTRAN
St. Louis Area Council on Restorative Justice
I would like to start this first source analysis saying that I am really excited about how we’re analyzing sources that are related to class, that are interesting and that we proposed.
This website at first sight seems colorful but elegant, with relevant information and with their mission and vision on the front page. The main claim is to promote restorative justice principles.
The creators are attempting to advocate for restorative justice ideas and their implementation in meeting the needs of crime victims, holding offenders accountable, and promoting community safety.
The source/website was established to advance restorative justice ideals through public and professional education as well as programs to learn more about it.
The goal is to address crime victims’ needs, increase accountability for criminals, and improve community safety by raising awareness and education about restorative justice.
I consider that the audience includes professionals, community organizations working with victims and offenders, and the wider community.
The source explains that the issue is converting the concept of restorative justice from discrete initiatives to an integrated ideology and lifestyle.
The source mentions the collaboration starting in March 2004, a period when interest in restorative justice was growing, and people formed a community around these principles.
After exploring the whole website, it reminds me of some movements or programs in my hometown in Mexico that helped us to understand how to address people form native communities “Tarahumaras”, how to address the information and how to let everyone know about them and the things they do.
This is definitely one of the sources that we might have to use further into the semester to obtain information about restorative justice and how to address this information without forgetting to be respectful and objective.
