I chose hate crimes for April 2024 compared to the hate crimes in 2023 because I once remember discussing this topic in class and after class I did further research on it because I wasn’t much educated about hate crimes and what they were. Hate crimes are where a perpetrator targets a victim because of their physical appearance or because they’re involved with a certain group. I’m not sure what neighborhood in St.Louis this data set is focusing on. This data set serves a good purpose for someone wanting to know information about a new area they may be moving to or for someone like me doing a data set review appears and needs the information.
As I took a look at the information this data set provided I was stunned to see the amount of crimes there are. It is a lot of information to cover. In the neighborhood of Benton Park there have been 3 aggravated assaults committed in April 2024 and 2023 there were 1. There were 2 crimes of aggravated assault with a firearm in April 2024 and 1 in 2023. Simple Assault has 1 in April 2024 and 3 in 2023. One crime of intimidation was committed in 2024.
In the neighborhood of Boulevard Heights, there were hardly any crimes committed. I was surprised to see that there have been 3 burglaries, 1 robbery. Their highest crime count was 7 motor vehicle thefts as of April 2024 and 10 in April 2023. Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property was 7 in April 2024 and 12 in April 2023. There weren’t any offenses recorded after that. I have learned St. Louis has a high theft, crime, and motor theft crime rate. The neighborhoods that are on this website aren’t bad. It seems this is where the bad guys go to commit their crimes or steal because there are higher rates of theft than any other crime.
I finally found a murder, rape, and sodomy crime in the College Hill neighborhood. This murder has more murder, rape, and sodomy crimes that have been committed in April 2024 than theft crimes. This is very surprising because you would expect more theft chargers than anything. This neighborhood raises a red flag for sex offenders and/or pedophiles. The neighborhood is nice and has some big nice brick homes. This is the end of my data set analysis. I chose Benton Park and Boulevard Heights because they stuck out to me the most. The data sets were very organized and structured, and not hard to read.
