My Goals

Major

I am majoring in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology with a minor in Spanish. I love the field because of its interesting concepts. I also enjoy the idea of being of speech therapist. I want to minor in Spanish to not only open myself to other cultures and languages, but to also be able to connect with future clients who may speak a different langauge.

Career Interests

I want to become a pediatric speech therapist. My plan is after getting my Master’s Degree, I want to work in a school setting, preferably a deaf or hard of hearing school. I also want to work in clinical but eventually I want to end up with my own private practice that is centered around helping those with speech-language problems for a low price so that those at an economical disadvantage can still recieve treatment or therapy like anyone else. My major in Speech Language Pathology is a must have to achieve this goal. Everything I am learning in the SLP program is crucial information that will help me develop my career as a pediatric speech therapist. My minor in Spanish can also help me be able to connect with my Latinx patients and I will be able to help them with any language problems they may have.

Courses Completed

Summer Of 2022

ACS 101: Public Speaking

Public speaking (ACS 101) was a very fun course that I took while in the Summer Success Program. In this class, we took guided notes, quizzes, and speeches. My favorite speech was my persuasive speech which I did on reparations for slavery. I put a lot of effort and thought into this speech. I believe I could make it even better by editing it more, since I’ve gotten more experiences with writing papers now.

UNIV 113: College Finances and Resources

UNIV 113 was a very intersting class! In that class, we learned about a lot of financial education such as taxes, scams, loans, scholarships, grants, credit, etc. This class was not one of my favorites, but it was a very interesting one to say the least.

Fall of 2022

BIOL 111: Contemporary Biology

I loved BIO 111. It was an introduction class to the study of biology. I like science based classes so this class was very fun to me.

CODE 120: Research Team I

This class was my CODES Research Team class. In this class we learned and experimented with different research methods. I liked the freedom and control we had in this class.

CODES 121: Transdicplinary Communication

This was my Transdicplinary class. In this class we were introduced to lots of different medias, data analysis tools, etc. I like when we read Salvage the Bones, it was more intersting than I thought it would be.

PSYC 111: Foundations of Psychology

I did not enjoy my Intro to Psychology class. I was not too interested in the subject of psychology. I did enjoy the chapter on Child Psychology because that does interest me.

SPPA 101: Human Communication and It’s Disorders

This was by far my favorite class of the Fall Semester. In this class we got an introduction to Speech Language Pathology. My favorite topic was learning about language differences.

Spring Of 2023

CHEM 120A: General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry

I loved this class. I love math and this class involved lots of math within the chemistry which is why chemistry is one of my favorite subjects.

CHEM 124A: General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry Lab

This class was the lab to the chemistry lecture class. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the lecture class but some of the experiments were fun.

CODE 122: Research Team II

This was my research team class. I loved this class. Our professor really helped us to learn about research methods, connect with our community partner, and solidfy our research agenda.

CODE 123: Research and Systems Thinking

I did not enjoy this class like I hoped to. I thought it would have a similar structure to our CODES 121 class but instead it felt more like a general education class.

STAT 107: Concept of Statistics

This was my online statistics class. I do not like statistics so this class did not interest me at all.
