My Journey

When I first came to SIUE, it seemed like a huge place that I would easily get lost in. Now, I obviously get lost in buildings, on bike trails, and ever just in the quad, but eventually, I was able to find my way. I wanted to start with that because this basically explains my life in only a few seconds. Looking at what I said in a different light; when I first came to SIUE, I had my whole life planned out from that very moment up until 12 years from now, or I thought I did. I knew I wanted to declare a biology major because it would allow me to study to become an OB/GYN, but other than that, I was just coasting through hoping that I would land on my feet. SURPRISE, I didn’t. Instead, I ended up spiraling into a slump where I didn’t even know if I wanted to be in college anymore. I knew I didn’t want to be a doctor anymore, but I didn’t know what I did want to be either, and I still don’t. I eventually decided to declare my major as Sociology because I was told that it deals with things I am intrested in such as government, social problems, etc. I will be taking a Sociology class during the spring semester of 2025 to see if this is something I want to go through with. On the other hand, I declared a minor in Theater and Dance because I “need some joy in my life,” which was what I told my advisor. I have been interested in musical theater after participating in a musical in my junior year of high school, and I have always been interested in acting and dancing. So, this minor seemed like the best thing to do at the moment. I will be taking a dance class during the spring semester of 2025 as well, so I hopefully this will be something that I enjoy.
