Reflection 2
Week 2 Reflection: Planting Sweetgrass Name: Britney Lewis
- What is your favorite quote from this section and why is this so memorable to you (100 word minimum).
“Sometimes the greatest strength comes from accepting our weaknesses” This quote is memorable to me because accepting yourself for who you are and growing as a person I feel when you dont accept your weaknesses it could lead to a fixed mindset and you may always find it a challenge to change. But accepting it can lead to a growth mindset because you’re self-aware of your weaknesses.
- What does reciprocity look like in your culture? Provide specific examples (150 word minimum)
Example: If my sister pays for our food, I would pay for our drinks because it shows an act of kindness and is about maintaining a respectful relationship.
- This section begins with the following quote, “Sweetgrass is best planted not by seed, but by putting roots directly in the ground. Thus the plant is passed from hand to earth to hand across years and generations. Its favored habitat is sunny, well-watered meadows. It thrives on disturbed edges.” What does this mean to you? (150 word minimum).
What this quote means to me is things strive better when they are born/rooted in the environment that they are used too rather than starting over from scratch. I say that because say if you went to a school for most of your life and then switched to a different school you wouldn’t feel the same and probably wouldn’t thrive as if you were at the school you’ve always gone to.
- Specifically in “The Offering”, Kimmerer discusses how we focus our attention. What are ways in which you choose to focus your attention and are you happy with these choices? (100 word minimum)
Creating a distraction-free place because for me it takes NOTHING for me to get distracted and I honestly hate it. So I would start off by surrounding myself in a place with no distractions meaning No phones, No other people just an empty room, and yes.
