This semester I have learned a lot about wicked problems and systems in our society. I have read about resiliency, sustainability, and how interconnected and complex systems or problems can be. These sophisticated readings taught me to take a slower approach to understanding a concept and applying it to assignments. Though it has always been a little hard, I believe that I have greatly improved my collaboration skills and that actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the class so far. I also enjoyed the first digital project because we got to essentially make our own prompt. In the future I want to keep developing my speech and collaboration skills.
Goal 1 (20%)
[Improve speaking skills – Slower and clearer]
Star Wars multimedia journalism – YouTube
This was my favorite assignment because I got to talk about Star Wars and I am a Star Wars nerd. Besides that, it taught me to speak clearer and slower because hearing what it sounded like the first time was awful, so I had to correct it. It made it easier to do when I was, at least in my mind, required to make it clearer.
Goal 2 (20%)
[Obtaining a more thorough understanding of readings]

This is a screenshot of my notes from one of our class readings. I broke the chapter down into some key points and noted where helpful and important things were. I use this tactic for all my note taking now. This first half of the semester has taught me how to take better notes to further my understanding of readings.
Goal 3 (20%)
[Work more efficiently with others. Understand and work with the thought and action process of collaborative partners.]

This was one of the collaborative assignments we did in class where we had to relate the driving factors of problems. I liked this assignment because I got to understand the thinking process of people other than myself. This taught me to be patient and listen to the entire groups ideas before we come to a consensus of what to actually write.
Goal 4 (20%)
[Explain my thoughts more in depth to create better understanding for an audience.]

This is an excerpt from the first digital project we had in the class. This was about my journey in religion, and I believe that I expanded on my point very well here. I was proud of this paper and feel like it was better than anything I had written before. Doing assignments like this have helped me get more in depth when explaining any points I need to make because it is something that I actually want to write about and have a somewhat extensive knowledge of.
Goal 5 (20%)
[Distinguishing between good, bad, biased, and unbiased sources.]

There really has not been many assignments where I have had to demonstrate that I can distinguish good, bad, or biased sources. The main sources we have used in the class so far are our textbooks and some of the article readings. However, many of the article readings are not really argumentative or arguing a point like Sustainable World is. Despite this, the book has given me a good example of a non biased source that displays thorough information. So it has helped to teach me some ways that I can weed out unwanted sources in future assignments.
