So far this semester I have learned to write better and problem-solving skills. My professors have given me a lot of input about my writing to make it better for the next writing assignments. I really liked going on our field trip to Alton, it was really fun and a great experience. Traveling with my friends and laughing with them as we learned really made the whole trip come together. I struggled with keeping up with all my work in my different classes. I knew college gave a lot of homework I just wasn’t ready for everything and as time goes on I space my homework out. I feel like I have done best with my writing skills, but I do want to better my oral communication. I want to be able to present without stuttering and without messing up my pronunciation.
Goal 1 (20%)
[Oral Communication, Use compelling, appropriate delivery techniques]
This is my first oral communication, other than class conversations. I can fix some mistakes but I do think I talked loud enough and clearly enough for my audience.I could fix my eye contact and not have to look down to remember what I have written. I need to work on memorizing at least most of my future presentations.
Goal 2 (20%)
[Written Communication: Uses language that communicates meaning to readers with clarity and fluency.]
To show my goal of written communication I took the comments, made by my professor, on my first digital project and revised it. I fixed the mistakes I made and corrected them to strengthen my communication. I made sure my word choices were easily understood by the audience. I made sure my paragraphs had smooth transitions into the next.
Goal 3 (20%)
[Problem-solving Skills, identifies and evaluate multiple approaches for solving problems]
In my CODES 120 class we talked about doing research that related to our research group. We all came up with different points for each topic we wanted to do. I helped and gave different ideas for the research and some of them we actually used. We came up with the idea of studying around campus and asking questions for feedback.
Goal 4 (20%)
[Skills of Lifelong Learning: Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.]
On our class fieldtrip to Alton, we visited so many sites and learned new things about Alton. The things I learned in Alton were truly amazing and a great experience. I learned the history of the caves, the tallest man, and the meaning behind the red line. The red line is a lot higher than I thought it was going to be. I’d never understand the true feeling of the people in Alton at the time of the flooding, but I know it was a fight to get it to where it is today. This showed me to look into more places and the history behind them.
Goal 5 (20%)
[Ethical Reasoning: recognizes multilayered ethical issues and the cross-relationships among them.]
While on our class fieldtrip to Alton we stopped at the Boys and Girls Club and visited different organizations. While visiting them, they asked us a question about our school life and if our community had any effect on the students around us, and if teachers had helped us with our problems. While we all explained our school life we came to realize most of our communities had a huge effect on everyone around us.
