The Danger of a Single Story

In the Ted Talk Adichie talks about “many stories matter” which means a lot to anyone that is willing to listen. By this comment we can shape our research because we should look at it from other individuals point of view. Others can see the same situation but tell it in the way that they perceived it. Everyone’s thoughts and opinions always matter and being able to know that their stories matter rather than just your own could change your outlook on life.

Writing about myself I feel to be a pretty basic individual since all I do is do sports and schoolwork. But there’s more to my life story than I can put into one reflection so I’ll just try to do the main points. I run at SIUE on scholarship and have been suffering injuries since I’ve been here. I do everything that I can to accomplish what I can while being hurt and out of what I enjoy doing the most. I enjoy the smaller things in life such as: being outside and enjoying nature, hanging out with friends and family. I feel like I am a pretty social and friendly person and can make friends with anyone.

Now if I were to tell someone to write a paragraph about myself and give me their opinion, I feel like it would be completely different from what I had to say about myself. As I said in the first paragraph everyone sees things on their own and describes it in their own way making the same situation completely different from someone else. If I were to ask someone to do this I feel like the main gaps that would be missing is that they’re not me so they would have no idea how I see life or myself.

All in all, I feel like Adichie makes a very valid point in saying that many stories matter because everyone in the world sees things in a different perspective leading to difference in the world.
