Reflection #1 & CODES Learning Outcomes
How has the process of planning your individual products and group project been going so far, and how can aspects of adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy inform the work you continue to do?
- The process for planning my individual products and group project has been going smoothly, the base has been set and now it’s all up to adding thoughts and ideas in order to start putting it all together.
- Aspects of adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy inform the work I continue to do by embracing that change will happen. Not everything my group and I plan to do may work and it may lead to some minor or major changes in order to get a better outcome on our projects. Emergent Strategy is a way to see things differently and out of the box and she describes it as an “awakening”.
Reflection #2
What aspect(s) of “land as pedagogy” do you see reflected in your work in CODES/in your life?
Some aspects from the reading that reflect in my work in my life is when it was mentioned how their school life was from Kindergarten to graduation. It was mentioned that all of school experience was based on someone else’s agenda, curriculum, and interests. At times I felt that I wasn’t able to express my interests and own decisions since things in class were always set and very rarely given an oppourtinity to freely do work or tasks. This is different towards my work in CODES because I believe I have had freedom in my work and be able to apply my interests and knowldge while still running on the professors syllabus and work. This is what makes work and class more interesting and as it was stated in the reading, she chose a different option rather than all the other student’s in the classroom because of her background. As a Hispanic student I have a different background compared to other classmates but I have found it useful to apply to my work with my class and groups.
Reflection #3
Which of the five principles has been most relevant in your work with CODES in previous semesters? Which of the five principles is most relevant now?
I believe that principle #1 has been most relevant in my work for previous semesters in CODES, more specifically, my work in my CODES research team. Principle #1 is Join the Community and I belive this is what has been seen more for past semesters since the NGRREC team has become a small community and we event took some time to identify what it was we want to focus on and we always were more involved in the social/media and environmental challenges aspects of NGRREC. We wanted more people to engage with these topics just as much as we were, so we made up things such as surveys and now working togething on year 3 to make a website to reach broader audiences.
The most relevant principle currently would be principle #3 since we are now using all of our collaboration and have our small community work towards invoking emotions with intention. We felt strongly about the work we were doing that we wanted to identify more goals that could target other communities. By using our emotions and intentions we are able to lead people to give us their point of view and personal experiences.
Reflection #4
Think about the target audience for each of your products. Now, consider yourself at the age of that target group, and/or in the context of your other shared identities. What drew/draws you in to peoples’ work? Think about aspects of writing, imagery, sound, design, etc. How might you shape/modify your own work, with this in mind?
The target audience for both of my products are highschoolers and if I put myself in the shoes of them, what draws them in is work or websites and are pleasing to look at and engaging. This is why making my work and research as clear and straight forward as I can is a priority for my products. The design is also importatn because nobody want’s to look at a website that is bland and hard to understand, especially highschoolers. As it was stated in the article, writing is used to send a message or make a certain point. This statment makes me shape my work into an educatual aspect. Having people learn from what I know is important in order to try to make a change in perspective.
