Template for a Class Portfolio

Introduction

This first half of the semester being in CODES made me find challenges I didn’t know I struggled with. I believe this class will help me overall in the field of study I’m in which is business. Writing papers and analyzing different things benefits me for my future. I enjoyed writing papers about myself and what impacted me through my life. the one thing I didn’t enjoy was the process of finishing my MC #2 since I’m a big procrastinator. Another project I didn’t quite enjoy was the story map since it took a lot of thinking and research to figure out what our project is about. This class helps me stay focused and stay on top of my work. The goal I want to work on would be evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts and issues.

Goal 1 (20%)

Takes risks in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.

Oct 10th feedback on Video

The video project we had to do gave me lots of challenges. One challenge I had to go through is that I had to figure out where I had to record this. It took me multiple times to find a place to record since I live with a roommate and both the study rooms and social rooms were occupied. That’s when I waited until 1 am when I knew people would most certainly be asleep and id have a quiet place to record. Another challenge it gave me was that I had to find out what methods the article was using to use in my video. I had to redo my story boarding a lot since I kept writing about more of Taylor swifts’ story instead of going off the one piece of journalism I was assigned. This project made me learn how to analyze articles better and how to find tools on how they grab people’s attention.

(from a doc I created with my feedback on certain assignments. )

Storymap Feedback Dec 5th

As a group, we all had to take different approaches to this project. We had to figure out who would be editing the story map, who would be talking about the pictures they took on the tour, and who would be doing the research on where they get the funding from. I had to start over on my part since I wasn’t talking about Tower Grove but instead St. Louis as a whole.

Goal 2 (30%)

Uses clear organizational patterns and is skillful at presenting content cohesively.

My video uses many pictures from the article to present my video better and have visualizations.

Putting pictures in our story map project helped give good understanding of what we are talking about.

Goal 3 (20%)

[Works independently towards goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.]

[Takara’s feedback helped me with accomplishing this goal. Even though lots of people did the Taylor Swift article for their video, she noticed the unique effort i put into the video. She said the rhetorical devices I analyzed were different and unique compared to other T Swift videos. I was committed to trying to make my video different compared to the other videos.]

I worked independently on the Story map project looking up where the funding came from, what activities community development has done, and some places they refurbished. I finished my part on Wednesday of Nov 29th.

from doc- The story map highlights Tower Grove Park’s community development efforts in St. Louis, focusing on creating affordable housing and diverse neighborhoods. The park invested $2.2 million in real estate to develop new communities. A successful fundraiser, “Sustaining Housing Dreams,” raised $96,245, with support from Midwest Bank Centre and Draper-Kramer. The funds will be used to build affordable housing along the South Grand Corridor. (Dec 4th)

Goal 4 (20%)

[Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.]

[MC # 2 shows a good understanding of what the context of the video is about. (rhetorical devices an article uses) The project has included a paragraph about who the Audience of the video is. The purpose of the video is to show that a lot of articles uses these rhetorical devices so then people can have an interest in reading it. )

When presenting my part of the Story map, I used good context words to summarize each part thoroughly. I wrote all different summaries for each part to give a good understanding of what our project is about.

Goal 5 (10%)

[Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts and issues.]

[MC # 2 and reflection # 4 shows good significance in how I analyzed the piece of journalism I was reading and using clues to see what audience they were grabbing the attention for and rhetorical devices they used. ]

(from reflection 4 September 26, 2023)

The website was written like it was in a diary. The beginning of the article shows a line that says, “We Never Go Out of Style.” I feel like that portrays the fact Taylor Swift has never fallen off and she’s just been gaining more and more attention. It had a range of popping colors to attract the teens.
