Introduction
This second half of the semester has been spent completing our products and preparing for our final class group presentation. I did a good job of completing my products in a timely manner as well as at a high standard. I think I continued to excel at my goals to not miss class as well as contribute actively with the planning for my team’s project. I did a better job of making sure my personal work was turned in on time as well as completing the works cited for my portion of the group project on time. I decided to change one of my learning goals from participating in community service to another that you will see later in the portfolio.
Goal 1 (20%)
Learning Outcome 12C: Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines
Taking ownership of the Works Cited page for my group’s project has helped me develop the skill of contributing towards a collective goal and meeting deadlines. With the deadline having come and passed, I definitely think the works cited helped hold me accountable. I did end up taking photos of Iris center sign-in sheets from my sessions with my research teammates, as seen above.
Goal 2 (30%)
Learning Outcome 13A: Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose
These two reflections both demonstrate myself meeting my goal of effectively connecting important points from class discussions/readings to my work. Both reflections are about pieces of reading we had to do for class, and I think I did a good job at making sure my reflections were still relevant to those readings. We didn’t have any other reflections for class, so I feel as if this goal was met.
Goal 3 (20%)
Learning Outcome 13C: Uses language to skillfully communicate with clarity and fluency
My product #1 was a two page long reflection on my experience as a mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of Alton, Illinois. Having completed the edits and comments, I feel that it is firmly demonstrates my strong writing ability to write reflections. I think the length of this assignment helped me further develop my ability to write reflections, because I had to put more thought into it than just the base level of what I experienced. Seeing it materialize from just an idea to an actual part of my team’s website was very fun for me and I definitely ended up enjoying the completion of it more than I thought I would.
Goal 4 (15%)
Learning Outcome 7C: Reviews prior learning inside and outside of the classroom to reveal significantly changed perspectives about educational and life experiences
My product #2 included some bits of my team’s previous research pertaining to certain aspects of mentorship that are key for mentoring relationships to succeed. Utilizing the research on top of what I already had planned for the multimedia composition definitely helped add depth to the product that I think really helped make it better overall.
Goal 5 (15%)
Learning outcome 3A: Identifies and analyzes their core beliefs and reflects upon their origin.
I changed this goal from one that related to trying to find time to do some community service. My second product definitely completed this as I took some good time to evaluate some of my core beliefs and how they originated from some of my previous experiences without a mentor.
