First-Week Introduction

The five goals I have chosen for this semester are creating future plans based on prior knowledge, factoring ethics into problem-solving, meeting deadlines for independent assignments, finding multiple approaches, and turning simple information into intricate solutions. Most of the goals I chose are based on problem-solving, since this semester will mostly revolve around research. I will also get many opportunities to prove my problem-solving skills with the source analyses and the labs, which I am most excited for. While I do believe these labs will be enjoyable, the last lab might be the most difficult assignment this semester just because there are different approaches that could be taken to complete it, so finding the right path to take to end off the semester might be rather challenging. But in order to ensure that I am prepared for these assignments, my plan is to stay ahead on assignments, so I am not pushing everything back to the last minute and overwhelming myself at the end of the semester.

Midterm Introduction

Throughout the first part of the semester, I have gotten a better understanding of how community organizations work. Diving deeper into the inner workings of these groups through site visits or online calls has been the highlight of the semester so far. However, working alongside them has proven to be quite a challenge. There is a lot more compromise and replanning than I originally thought. Each day, there were new pieces of information that needed to be added to the survey or changes that needed to be made. It was hard to keep up at times since I did not expect this collaboration to be as time consuming. My goals for the rest of the semester are to work on my timeliness. I want to do a better job at keeping up with my assignments and the updates on the group project. I will do this by checking the syllabus and Blackboard more often, so I am not forgetting about the in-class due dates.

Final Introduction

This semester did not end the way I expected it to. I had fallen behind on some assignments earlier in the semester, so when the class started picking up in the last few weeks, I was not ready. I made many mistakes throughout this class, but despite that, I am still pushing towards my future in CODES. I know I have struggled a lot already, but I do not want to give up. I believe that I do have the potential to keep up with this class and make an impact on the group projects, I just need to spend my time developing good study habits and time management skills so that I am prepared for next semester. I have been given one last opportunity to improve and better myself, and I will not take it for granted.

Course Goals

Goal 1 (15%)

In this assignment, my research group took our results from the different labs and used them to map out the next semester and what our goals will be.

Goal 2 (20%)
Based on 3c: Factors ethics into problem solving

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
I will explore the reality of proposed solutions instead of just focusing on “the good”The last couple labs will show how I incorporated ethics and problem solving to fix water equity issuesThe source analyses show a conflict between multiple different solutions.

Source Analysis #2

The grassroot organizations discussed in that article mostly wanted to help improve sustainability worldwide. They all just had different approaches, such as providing for the poor or saving a rare plant.

Goal 3 (35%)
Based on 12c: Meeting deadlines and working independently

I will ensure that my portions of group assignments are turned in on timeMy completed assignments will show how I have improved throughout the semesterThe turned in source analyses and labs will show that I have met my goal

Source Analysis #2

I completed this assignment on the article “Why Grassroot Organizations Are Essential for Sustainability”

Source Analysis #3

I completed this assignment on a YouTube video about the Big Bang of Cahokia.

Lab #3 Analysis

I completed half of the Lab #3 Analysis while my group member, Lyric, completed the other half.

I completed the portion of the presentation on Lab 3.

Goal 4 (20%)
Based on 9b: Find multiple approaches to problem-solving

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
I will use sources that identify different solutions in order to find the best ways to solve water equity issuesI will use my source analyses to show off my different ideas for solutionsThe sources used in the source analyses will demonstrate my success in finding multiple approaches.

Lab #3 Analysis

In coding and transcribing the results from Lab #3, we had to use multiple different methods to understand the information and its context.

Goal 5 (10%)
Based on 4c: Use simple knowledge to create intricate solutions

What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
I will use what I found in my sources to work out solutions for water equityThe source analyses will help show the knowledge I acquiredThe source analyses and the labs will demonstrate how I have turned my knowledge into possible solutions
