Scientist Reflection

  • This assignment met all requirements, such as minimum word count, and was submitted on time, meeting my first goal of submitting full assignments on time
  • My first reflection of the semester talked about common traits in all scientists. I argued that every scientist has a natural curiosity about the world around them, which contributes to their interests in exploring scientific topics. I also go on to use Neil deGrasse Tyson as an example by saying that he often conducts research on various topics and posts the results on Twitter. This demonstrates my understanding of scientist traits by relating them to the traits of an actual scientist, meeting my second goal.

Week 2 Reading Reflection

  • My first reading reflection was submitted on time and with every question answered in the correct number of words, meeting my first goal of submitting completed assignments on time.
  • In the third question, I related a quote in Braiding Sweetgrass about connecting to nature to stargazing outside of a light-polluted city. Not only was I able to show an understanding of the text, but I was able to demonstrate my knowledge on the importance of connecting with nature by mentioning a common issue caused by a lack of connection to the nature, meeting my second goal.

Jigsaw Prep #1

  • When answering why the article I read was significant, I explained how issues like pollution are only increasing in severity because of anthropocentric policies. My ability to use this reading to complete a writing assignment and reflect on why it is important in our society shows that I met my fourth goal.

10 Article Citations

  • In order to write my Research Paper on passive vs. active learning strategies, I had to find ten articles to get my data from. Each source I found was either a primary research article or a review article that was written by professional researchers attempting to answer questions similar to my topic. These sources, and their citations, meet my fifth goal of citing credible sources.

Jigsaw Prep #2

  • The article that I read for my second Jigsaw was about the effects of human foraging on prey species. In my assignment, I explained how this topic is relevant because technology is only making human foraging methods more and more advanced. The fact that I was able to reflect on the implications that this research could have on the future of prey species shows that I met my fourth goal of applying readings to other contexts.

Week 5 Reading Reflection

  • This next Reading Reflection was written in detail and turned in before the due date, demonstrating that I met my first goal of completing assignments on time
  • For the second question, I used modern communication as an example of a daily activity that is shortened thanks to certain conveniences. This contrasts the concept mentioned by Kimmerer in Tending Sweetgrass, the concept being that maple sap requires a lot of time and effort to collect. The example that I used demonstrates my understanding of the topics discussed in this specific chapter of Braiding Sweetgrass, meeting my second goal.
