Major:
I chose Computer Science as my major for a different reason than most people do. It was because it was a major that required a lot of math. Math has always been my strongest subject ever since my 7th grade advanced math class. I have always found it easier to understand than classes like ELA. Especially after I took an AP Calculus BC class in my senior year, I knew Computer Science would not be a difficult route for me to take.
Career Interests:
My main goals for after college are to start off working for Google and one day branch off to do work with artificial intelligence. Since the rapid development of AI in the last decade, the concept of being an AI developer had piqued my interest. Computer Science is one of the best routes I could take to get there. It will teach me how to program normal computer systems, and that knowledge could be applied to creating programs that involve artificial intelligence.
Courses Completed:
Currently, I have completed Child Psychology, Intro to Computing I, Concepts of Computer Science, Transdisciplinary Communication, and Research Team I. In Child Psychology, I relearned some concepts about child development that I had previously learned in my Foundations of Psychology in my senior year. This course helped me go over some old theories and practices that will be useful for the other classes I will need for my Psychology minor. Intro to Computing I taught me the basics of how to code in C++, which I have never done before. Concepts of Computer Science was relatively simpler, just teaching me Python at a slower pace. Transdisciplinary Communication challenged my writing skills and made me look back on many methods that I used in my high school English classes. The Research Team class also allowed be to brush up on my old writing skills while teaching me how to better collaborate with other classmates for assignments.
Future Courses:
For the upcoming semester, I will be taking Calculus III, Research and Systems Thinking, Research Team II, Intro to Computing II, and Social Psychology. Looking forward to Fall of 2025, I will likely be taking a Chemistry class, two CODES classes, and a web development class. Calculus III and Chemistry should be easy courses for me, since I have already taken advanced Chemistry and Calculus classes in high school. The rest of the classes might challenge me in different ways. Intro to Computing II and the web development class will test everything that I have learned about computer science so far. The CODES courses will challenge my collaborative skills with community partners and classmates. While Social Psychology will teach me new concepts and test my knowledge of old concepts that I learned in high school.
