The Impact of Celebrity Culture on Society

I think the impact of celebrities aren’t spoken about enough. The majority of our influence comes from the things celebrities push and support. Sexy Red for example. She was in a recent controversy with an AI picture that surfaced that had her and MLK facing each other. Sexy Red had reposted it on her snapchat and got tons of backlash, including MLK’s daughter having something to say. 

This situation is very complicated because I understand Sexy Red might not be the best representation of the black community. I don’t approve of making her the enemy though. In my opinion, she is just being herself. I have a feeling that the black community is judging and shunning her, but not the millions upon millions of people who are listening to her music. The youth enjoy’s her music but when she goes out as sexy red it’s a problem with who she is. 

This image is obviously not intentionally disrespecting Dr. King. I think she felt respected to be a black woman included in an image with MLK. I think it was a chance to go after a different artist that isn’t a perfect image for the black community and the female community. It also confuses me when people come after current artist but never say anything about old artist and what they were talking about.
