Question: How has the process of planning your individual products and group project been going so far, and how can aspects of Adrienne Maree Brown’s Emergent Strategy inform the work you continue to do?
For starters, the planning phase of our group project has been a bit slow to be frank. One of the reasons for that is because we’ve only met once due to Labor Day falling on the day we generally meet. Secondly, since our group is essentially the largest out of all the research teams, we can’t meet all at once due to some understandable scheduling conflicts. Nonetheless, like in past classes, we always manage to get the work done and do a fairly good job of sharing our projects with larger audiences.
As for myself, I still am pretty much set on making my products through a podcast-styled approach. As mentioned in class, I’m thinking of having one podcast cover my own personal experiences being “mentored” at an after school program. The other podcast then will focus more on my experiences being a mentor at the Boys and Girls in Alton and how we as a research team were able to interact with the mentees through various discussions and activities.
Within the Emergent Strategy, I personally felt like the line about change being constant, and to be like water, will really stick with me throughout this class. As the first CODES cohort, we’ve obviously been through a lot together, but we continue to flow with the changes and remain resilient. When something obstructs the path of a river, it doesn’t just stop, rather, it moves around the obstruction and continues moving forward to its destination. We are sort of like a river, moving through all the obstacles we face together in hopes of reaching our end goals and succeeding.
