I chose Goodwill because I want to begin my career in Human Resources with an organization that is focused on helping people succeed through work. Goodwill stands out to me because HR is not just about hiring employees; it is also about supporting people, creating a positive workplace, and helping employees reach their potential.
My previous work experience has helped me build many of the skills I would need to be successful at Goodwill. My experience at Panda Express has especially helped me grow professionally. After being promoted, I became more involved in helping resolve conflicts between team members and took on more responsibility within the workplace. I also became one of the main trainers for new employees, which gave me experience teaching procedures, communicating expectations, answering questions, and helping new team members become comfortable in their roles. This experience helped me improve my leadership, communication, patience, and problem-solving skills, which are all important in Human Resources.
My experience at McDonald’s and Freddy’s also taught me how to work with different personalities, communicate as part of a team, stay organized, and handle multiple responsibilities in fast-paced environments. My construction experience taught me the importance of following directions, safety procedures, reliability, and working toward a shared goal.
Even though most of my previous jobs were not directly in Human Resources, each position has helped me develop skills that transfer into an HR career. My promotion and training responsibilities at Panda Express have given me experience that is especially relevant because I have already started helping employees learn, solve problems, and work better together. Combined with what I am learning through my Business Administration and Human Resources education, these experiences have prepared me to take the next step toward an entry-level HR career with Goodwill.
