Introduction
In CODES 120 I have gathered much information over these last 8 weeks. We met with JJK FAN & Heartlands and learned a lot about the different plans these organizations offer the youth. With that being said I learned a lot of strengths and different weaknesses I faced while in this program. Something I enjoyed doing was working with different source analyses. I found the information we went over to be interesting and to open my mind to different topics I wouldn’t normally discuss. Something I struggled with was time management and communication. When I didn’t understand certain assignments, I hesitated to reach out to my professors and ask for help. The issue I had with time was not putting it in my schedule to finish the assignment at hand. I feel getting my work done in a detailed and fashionable manner was something I truly feel I did my part in. I want to keep improving the amount of time I put into my work and to stay consistent with all that I do.
Goal 1
2 B.) Critical & Creative Thinking
“Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.” (20%)
I used source analyses 2 and 3 for evidence for taking risks with this artifact. When I worked on my first analysis, I learned to find new ways to express the article and the information being presented. Something I want to work on though is going into depth of the article. I normally tend to be straightforward and not see things from a different point of view. During future analysis, I want to be able to expand more on these new ways to try my writing
Goal 2
Information Literacy 5 B.)
“Accesses information using effective, well-designed search strategies and appropriate sources.” (20%)
For this artifact, I chose one of the major projects we did in class Multimodule#1. During this project, I chose to talk about ESTL and the water problem they had with flooding. With this, I had to back up information about who was affected and what they were going through. I used news articles and local weather stations to help with my evidence on this problem. This goal helped me know the importance of having good search strategies because, at the end of the day, it helps lay out your paper better.
Goal 3
Skills for Lifelong Learning 7 B.)
“Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.” (20%)
For this artifact, I chose source analysis #4 and Source Analysis #3. Both of these assignments made you really want to look outside the class and find more information about the topic. After watching the movie “Flint” I looked for more information on this water issue. I feel this goal really encourages me to continue to seek out information and try to learn new things.
Goal 4
Written Communication 13 A.)
” Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.” (20%)
For this artifact, I will be using MM#1 & 2. During this semester this was one of the assignments that helped me in other classes. I learned how audience and context work together to help show the purpose behind the paper. I will be using MM #2 to show the audience I’m trying to reach when talking about community. It also helped me look into why I am writing my paper and how to better my writing.
Goal 5
Oral Communication 8 B.)
” Uses compelling, appropriate delivery techniques” (20%)
For my last artifact, I will be using source analysis # 1. I know my hardships when it comes to presenting or speaking. It was one of the first assignments of the year and I wanted to go first to get outside my comfort zone. My group and I did a reflection on wicked problems and shared some questions in class to have a group discussion later. This is part of my artifact showing how I chose to present to my class. Something I want to do in the future is how I present. I tend to pause or freeze when talking or presenting information and I want to do better next time.
