First-Week Introduction
- Global Learning — a. Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.
- Skills for Lifelong Learning — a. Explores a topic in depth, yielding a rich awareness and/or little-known information indicating intense interest.
- Oral Communication — c. Develops clear, innovative central messages with significant supporting materials.
- Collaboration — c. Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.
- Critical & Creative Thinking — b. Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.
I choose these five goals because it is important to help me grow more as a student and wanting to be able to improve a lot on my work. These goals show that I am open to learning more and more about certain things and being able to be corrected on something that I am doing wrong. I am excited to be able to work more in my research group and being able to learn how to help better the certain subject as well. I think making a survey would be a little difficult because I am not used to doing that kind of work at all. Being able to completely understand what I am doing in the work.
Midterm Introduction
[Speak about the skills and content you’ve learned during the first half of the semester. What did you most enjoy? What did you struggle with? What goals do you think you’ve most excelled at meeting and what do you want to continue developing during the second half of the semester? What goals haven’t you yet met, and how will you make them a priority in the second half of class?]
Final Introduction
[Now that the semester is over, use your introduction to reflect in-depth on your process. How well did you meet the goals you set out to meet? What did you learn that surprised you? Focusing on your goals for this class, what do you want to remember to take with you into your future courses? What strategies can you use to continue developing toward these goals?]

Goal 1 (10%)
Global Learning — a. Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.
| What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
| Being able to fully understanding how to take in and being able to construct it to the world in a meaningful way to help others. Addressing the multiple problems worldwide can help you get a better understanding with how to look at certain things in life. | I want to be able to pay attention to the things that are going on in the outside world and being able to adapt it to help my learning more and more. I plan to use the feedback I get back to help me improve in certain areas where it is needed in my work. The reading How to Build a Village will help me a lot with this goal because being able to know what are the certain things they use for it and if it is good or not is very helpful. I want to be able to look at certain things differently when it comes to asking more and more questions to myself with how did they do this or something else. | -Community partner communications -Data visualizations -Reflections |
I hope to see a lot of communication between me and my peers so I can know what things I am doing right or wrong. I want to be able to be more confident with being able to ask for help from others instead of having to do it alone all the time. I hope they can notice the errors in my work, so they can help me in a way fix that work and be able to redo the work. Being able to go to any of my peers and making sure that everything looks right before turning it in.
Goal 2 (5%)
Skills for Lifelong Learning — a. Explores a topic in depth, yielding a rich awareness and/or little-known information indicating intense interest.

| Being able to know all the facts about a certain topic and in my own words having the opportunity to really discuss more and more about the topic. Being able to know the information and being able to talk about a topic passionately and using the information as backup on the discussion. | Being able to not always going off of everything I read and just use the information I find as backup when I need it. I want my peers and instructor to be able to tell me what I need to improve on more when I am giving speeches. When we lead discussions in class will be able to help me when it comes to discussing certain information on a certain reading. I want to be able to have my peers and instructor be able to ask me questions on my work and I actually now about the work instead of having to look at the work. | -Discussion leading preparation -Lab notes or project logs -Professor feedback |
I hope to be able to remember all of the topics without having to look back at a document to help me. My habits will help my change being able to keep an eye contact with people instead of having to look down at a document all the time. I want my peers and instructor to notice if I am not doing what I am supposed to when it comes to public speaking and talking in front of the class. That I am able to speak confidently without feeling nervous about speaking and forgetting everything.
Goal 3 (20%)
Oral Communication — c. Develops clear, innovative central messages with significant supporting materials.

| Being able to have people understand you clearly when you are telling them information about a topic. Being able to give out a clear message will be able to have the people know for sure what you are talking about and get them interested about the topic as well. | I want to be able to speak clearly when I am giving out speeches. I plan to use the feedback to make sure that I am doing what I need to while giving out the speeches to people. I use it for the leader discussion in class. I want to be able to still come into the speeches with organized notes to help me keep on track with my discussion. | -Discussion leading preparation -Data visualizations -Peer feedback + my response |
I hope to see that I am doing good when it comes to talking more and more in class and being able to have my words be clear to my peers and instructor as well. I hope that I am able to speak up more in class and not feeling scared to at all. I hope they can help correct me if I make any mistake in anything while talking in class. The signs that I progress is that when I am messing up less and less when it comes to me talking in class.
Goal 4 (35%)
Collaboration — c. Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.
| What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
| Being able to make sure all of my work is completely done by the time it needs to be done by. Still being to use the help as well and making sure my partner in class is also meeting the deadlines and getting all the work done by when it is due. | I want to pay more attention to the deadlines and rather I am close to getting all the done. I want my peers and instructor to make sure I am on top of everything and making sure that I stay on track with everything. All of my assignments and class activities will help me get to the point to make sure that all my work is done on time. My strategies for helping me is making sure I am writing all the due dates in my planner to help me keep track of everything. | -Code notebooks -Community partner communications -Professor feedback |
I hope to see that I am always using my planner all the time now, to make sure that everything is getting done. I want to break my habit with always forgetting about using my planner when it comes to putting all the due dates and things I have to do. I want my peers and instructor to make sure everyone is on top of their work and not slacking off at all. Signs of progress is making sure that me or anyone is not forgetting anything when it comes to work that was due and everything is going to be done on time.
Goal 5 (30%)
Critical & Creative Thinking — b. Takes risks in assignments and in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.
| What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
| Being able to try something new in an assignment will help when it comes to looking for new ways to think on the assignment. Being able to expand my knowledge will help with me being able to get more information for things that I really need now and even in the future, even if it is right or wrong. | I want to be able to get be more on task with making sure that all my work is being done on time and in a good timing. I plan to use the feedback I get back to help me grow more on the assignment and do better on future assignments as well. Good work will help me in a way because hearing everyone thoughts on certain work can help. I want to try to ask more question to either my instructor or peers to see where I can improve more at. I also think brainstorming now for a long time can also help me see what I should do on the assignment. | -Discussion leading preparation -Drafts & revisions -Reflections |
I would want to be able to take new risk with being able to talk more in class and be more out there and less quiet. When I get feedback on my draft work, I want to be able to make sure that I am revising the work and improving on the work as well. I would want my peers and instructor feedback as well so I am able to reflect off of it to make sure that I am improving more and more. The signs that progress by the end of the semester is going to be that I am improving more and more on my work and is open to other’s ideas.
