Phase 1 (Pre-Visit Prep): Finding Aids <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. What is your research question: Student mental health <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. Description of materials: I could not find any passages for students\u2019 mental health or just mental health in general as well.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. What to look for: I think the archives would have helped in to see how certain students years ago dealt with their mental health with balancing school and their personal life.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          • Inventory: Mayor Raymond reply letter to Mayor Alvin G. Fields and the meeting minutes from Mayor Raymond  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            • Subject: The letter discussed from Mayor Raymond to Mayor Alvin was how he does not work on the weekend and has that set aside spending time with his family.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              • Creator\/Audience: Louisa H. Bowen University Archives and Special Collections. The audience of the beatification committee of East St. Louis. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                  \n
                • Tone: The passion of wanting to make East St. Louis structure better led to a lot of anger, frustration, and racism too.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  • Connection: The complaint in the file is still relevant today and still needs some rebuilding in the community.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                    Phase 3: Reflection  <\/mdspan><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    This reflection is about the visit to the Archive visit we found that sources could\u00a0have shed light\u00a0with my research question dealing with student\u2019s mental health. A lot of\u00a0college students over the\u00a0years\u2019 experience\u00a0mental health differently\u00a0when it\u00a0comes with having to find a\u00a0good balance between school, work, and even time for themselves.\u00a0A lot\u00a0of\u00a0college students a couple of years ago normally did not\u00a0express or even show\u00a0anything that they were going through because a lot of the students our age do it a lot. Which it was\u00a0common\u00a0throughout\u00a0the years to just keep everything to themselves and\u00a0still push through with their work.\u00a0The voices\u00a0and the experiences of the\u00a0students\u00a0are\u00a0being told throughout the years with everyone\u00a0experiencing\u00a0something different or even going through something different\u00a0between each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    For the Archives was for Louisa H. Brown University\u00a0and even the people of East St. Louis.\u00a0The black people\u00a0living in the community of\u00a0East St. Louis\u00a0got silenced a\u00a0lot\u00a0over the time.\u00a0Going\u00a0through the different\u00a0information that was in the\u00a0box made me feel like\u00a0a researcher because\u00a0having to just\u00a0read through\u00a0everything and getting\u00a0an\u00a0understanding of the information that is being provided.\u00a0The group that I were in\u00a0was\u00a0discussing the different\u00a0things that we found in the box and even when it came to\u00a0just\u00a0discussing\u00a0it as well.\u00a0Yes, we did look at the documents\u00a0differently\u00a0and\u00a0talk\u00a0to each other\u00a0about\u00a0what we think the documents meant.\u00a0All the information that we saw was also helpful as well with seeing how much the people of color in East St. Louis went through\u00a0when it came to the listening to them and trying to make the community better.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
