Your Goal Grade

First-Week Introduction

My goal is to improve in my collaboration with others and my work ethics in and out of the classrooms. I am going to put myself more into my work and improve my organization skills, so I do not feel as disoriented towards my assignments. I also want to not be afraid to ask questions so I understand the work more so I can improve the work I created.

Midterm Introduction

We learned a lot about the data collection process. I enjoyed learning more Indepth of the statistics needed for data collection. I struggled with patient it takes to make the necessary process of creating the perfect survey. I have most excelled at making suggestions in my group to move it forwarded. I need to approve more in my oral communication. I will work more with notecards on my oral communication and making notes.

Final Introduction

I meet my goals of increasing my tolerance and ability to collaborate. I also improve my organization and work style to try not to be too overwhelmed by class and the workload. I did this by taking it a step at a time and not always looking towards the future. I asked way more questions and this caused me to not be as confused as I previously was. I was surprised that sometimes working in a group you need to stop and take a break. I was surprised by the way the sitting back can improve the process of the group and your mentality. I will remember that I cannot do everything for myself, and it is okay to ask for help.

Course Goals

Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that you’d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.

Goal 1 (20%)
Based on (13C): Be able to communicate clearly and efficient through my writing

I will make sure to use appropriate vocabulary and add my personality to my writing What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal?
I will try to use more advance vocabulary by doing more research on them and adding more of a personal touch to the writing Survey questions
Story telling projects
source analysis
Survey questions will show my ability to communicate my questions to others

my ability to showcase my story to others through writing
Source analysis will show my ability to understanding the reading and writing my thought process throughout

“How do you think society oppresses and silences Grassroot organizations?” I made this question during my turn as discussion lead. I believe it shows my ability to not only understand text but also enough to write coherent question.

“The natives’ innovative ways of building mounds and their use of nature to incorporate their culture and last over centuries. I like the connections that a lot of native tribes have of recreating things in nature we take for granted.” In this writing I clearly communicate my understanding of the history of natives and my appreciations of it.

“We had worries beforehand that we would not receive any information since they were extremely busy and government officials. The sensitive climate around EPA and water factored into this as well. We sent out emails to over 50 public works employees, and we even received blocked notifications from some. In the end, we realized we can make this failure a success. We decided to let our lessons learned from our previous study give us motivation to create future plans.” In this writing I communicate the struggle that my team faced in our collection of data, but we turned it into a positive narrative to find a new thing to research.

“In our Lab 3 we interviewed fellow CODES students who have previously lived in East St. Louis and Belleville. In these interviews we asked questions about their knowledge of water use in their hometowns. They had a lot of similarities in response to our questions; some were their low knowledge of usage of water and water policies. They also had a similar statement of CODES, their main source of information for water policies. This is significant because it shows programs can teach and increase interest in water insecurities. This supports our prior knowledge that resources to teach people are either hidden or not talked about enough.” In this Lab I describe and make connections clearly from our interviews to answer the question provided to answer.

Goal 2 (15%)
Based on (8b): I want to make my oral communications more complying and interesting to listen to

Final presentations
I will show organization during my discussion and knowledge of what I’m speaking of during story telling

I will communicate my understanding and knowledge to others vocally

“Why Grassroot Organizations are Essential for Sustainability by Jane Marsh

  • They explain what grassroots organizations are as ordinary people coming together to help communities in need
  • They believe that grassroots are important because Sustainability solutions should start small and grow connections, in which they hope that the work will multiply
  • Small differences in society are still important and beneficial
  • Gave examples of grassroot organizations that work to save the environment
  • DECOIN is a grassroot in Ecuador that aims to help post mining effects. They focus on biodiversity. ” These are notes I wrote to help me through discussion leads so I could have a better verbal communication during my presentation.

these are the notes I used to prepare myself for my groups group lead.

I worked with my groupmate Venus to organize our presentation to be able to add more facts and interesting artifacts to our scrolly telling.

“We sent out emails to over 50 public works employees, and we even received blocked notifications from some.” In my scrolly telling I used humor to add to the monotone information beforehand.

Goal 3 (25%)

“This is great, Lyric! I will send out an announcement to share this and the video with the class tomorrow.

Have a good night,

Dr. Shea” this is an email I received from Dr. Shea after making suggestion for a better article to annotate

In this text it shows me putting in input on my group members making of our poster to receive the best outcome.

To quicken the processes of our website to be completed I assisted my groupmate with their section.

In this email I inform my groupmate of my ways I have assisted them in the process of our Lab 3 Questions.

This is me asking Jaiden if he had any connections in his hometown to move the process of our lab quicker.

“Marrisa is 98% white according to statistical vs. Centerville 91% black population” I decided to go out of my way to learn the actual statistics of the town to see if it supported my theory of racial mistreatment.

“‘This is the most robust measure so far of cerebral differences between homosexual and heterosexual subjects,’ she says.

Previous studies have also shown differences in brain architecture and activity between gay and straight people, but most relied on people’s responses to sexuality driven cues that could have been learned, such as rating the attractiveness of male or female faces” (Andy Coghlan). This is part of an article I read on the differences between Hetero and homosexual brains after my interest was piqued looking at Bradelys research.

In this Source Analysis I learned about the “Bird word Wall” after my reading of the article I went into more in depth dive of the culture involved in once sad story of segration turned into an act of freedom of speech.

After reading more about grassroot organizations for this Source Analysis I looked for some in my hometown. One I am going to be volunteering in over the summer.

Show my understanding or issues and improving them with solutionsLabs
Survey questions
scrolly telling
Showing examples of my input of issues

Showing brainstorms with my groupmates

Due to me being absents I come up with a plan to make up for my missed attendance to still receive the grade I would prefer. I took more work on Lab 3 to make it more even on the workload being handed out to group members. I came up with a solution to an issue of me not receiving the grade I would prefer to get.

When having conflicts with layouts of our scrolly telling I figured out a solution to make a layout and assigned each member the part that best fit their strengths. This shows that even in a stressful situation I came up with an idea to ease the pain.

When we were thinking of new ideas for Lab 3, I came up with the idea to interview individuals on campus instead of organizations since we had easier access to them.

When having issues sending emails to Public Works Employee in Southern Illinois, I came up with the idea to send emails to multiple representees of the town so there is a higher chance of getting to the people that we need.
