First-Week Introduction
I choose my five goals because it will allow me to grow as a student and a person by gaining the ability to deeply analyze readings than more than just surface levels. It will also allow me to be a better partner in group projects which is always useful in the future. I will take time and effort into every assignment allowing me to reach my goals.
Midterm Introduction
We have learned a lot about data and the skills it takes to collect and correctly analyze the information you receive. I really enjoyed learning more of the psychological aspects of data. I struggled with finding the correct questions to receive the answerers I truly need. I really believe I accelerated in my goal to analyze scholarly text and i want to develop in my skill of learning outside the classroom. I have not really met my goal in groupwork since there has not been many chances to practice it.
Final Introduction
In this semester I believe I have grown as not only a student, but also a person. I learned more about myself and limits. Allowing me to know when to stop and when I can continue going. I have gone more in depth in myself mentally and this has helped my processing with reading and analyzing. I am more helpful to my groupmates because I know more of the things I can give to benefit the group as a whole. I surprised myself in my ability to actually take a break and look at the smaller steps instead of just the big picture. I will always remember that it is okay to take breaks and ask questions. There is no shame in resting.
Course Goals
Choose five goals from the CODES Student Learning Outcomes that you’d like to work toward. Choose goals that are relevant to the scope of this course, select artifacts/examples based on activities assigned for this course, and explain characteristics in a way that illustrates how your artifacts/examples demonstrate your progress toward the goal.
Goal 1 (20%) 11A
Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I will work on my analyzing of reading and taking my time to make sure I truly understand all of the information presented in the piece | CITI Training Certificate Top 5 Assignment | Analyze the content of the piece to be able to answer the quiz questions through fully read the piece and show understanding and connection to outside world |
In my accomplishment of receiving my CITI I had to analyze readings and apply them to the questions needed to receive my certifications.
“In today’s society we have this obsession with perfection to the point we lose ourselves and our history to make it seem more pristine. In Against Cleaning by Katie Rawson and Trevor Munoz emphasize the point of how fixated people are with cleanliness to the point we ruin our history is archives, libraries, and digital spaces.” in the text above is a segment of my writing for article annotation 2. I made the connection of reading of data set cleanliness to our obsession for everything to be perfect. It shows my ability to connect a reading to a current obsession in society I have seen.
“The concept of social facilitation has always interested me. I believe the concept of hyping up from others is a beautiful way to give people confidence in the task that they have had practiced in and a great way to give them a boost, but I also think it shows the self-doubt humans have in themselves a lot. It shows that even when you have practiced a task constantly the validation of your hard work is not always enough but for others to see and validate it is the thing needed for you to be truly confident in yourself and give yourself the push you always knew you had.” above is a segment from my Psych Top 5. I made the connection of social facilitation in the reading to the common occurrence especially in today’s climate of self-doubt showing my understanding of the reading.
“What is the experience of being a queer ethnography? Since you are in such a specific demographic that it is not acceptable in some communities how you can live and interact with them if they do not accept your lifestyle.” In this excerpt from Top 5 Chapter 3 I connect the reading from the textbook to a real-life experience in the world.
Goal 2 (20%) 7B Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.
As some may say, knowledge is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you and I want to strengthen that skill. I want to be more educated beyond what my professor teaches me.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I will go out of the way on my curiosity of topics in the classroom and outside the classroom | Video Essays Top 5 assignments Writing with more intention and knowledge behind it my readings | A video essay of a topic I saw interest in Showing my knowledge of statics and the text Show things I have found interesting in my readings |
“‘This is the most robust measure so far of cerebral differences between homosexual and heterosexual subjects,’ she says.
Previous studies have also shown differences in brain architecture and activity between gay and straight people, but most relied on people’s responses to sexuality driven cues that could have been learned, such as rating the attractiveness of male or female faces” (Andy Coghlan). This is part of an article I read on the differences between Hetero and homosexual brains after my interest was piqued looking at Bradelys research.
“Social comparison is a phenomenon commonly used amongst society. With social media it has become an overwhelming beast that has triumphed our mentality to constantly compare ourselves to others since it’s such a simple click of a button away. I wonder the social comparison affects social media has” In this writing above I connect my outside research and thoughts of social comparison and connected it to the textbook reading.
It shows my efforts outside of class to obtain my CITI to be become research in the classroom.
For my organization Black Women in STEM, I did Indepth research for other careers in STEM to create more inclusive activates for my members.
Goal 3 (15%)
3b. Recognizes multilayered ethical issues and the cross-relationships among them.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I will try to recognize deeper connections with ethical issues and how they intertwined with each other | Final Project Top 5 | Final project will let me analyze data and their connections I will connect issues in the top 5s to outer book situations |
“The results showed that AI is not always a negative barrier in classrooms unlike other studies but can work in a positive light. It shows the importance of specifying boundaries in a classroom to students, so they do not accidentally overstep them, and that AI is just as likely as any other cheating method such as plagiarism. The study had limitations as they only research students in their first two years of their degree and over half of the participants had no experience with ChatGPT and therefore could not answer the questions.” in my article annotation I showed my understanding of AI uses and issues of not establishing boundaries in the classroom and how these issues overlap
“She shows the significance and fighting for the land that the Gullah Geechee are doing to still be able to connect with their ancestors on the land that belongs to them but are being swept from beneath their feet. Moore has some limitations of truly learning the culture since she’s a white woman that was not born into it. She also did not include many personal stories in the article which could limit the impact her writing has on others reading.” In this reading I connect that the author research was great, but there is a connected issue in the matter that she did not take the story of Gullah Geechee people straight from them. It is similar to the people who are taking their land without talking to them about their stories and importance of it.
“In my studies of learning more about an underprivileged black community I can connect with their experiences on a different level than others might. I can see patterns that I have probably lived by myself that someone from a different life could not. Researchers can make sure they include voices they study by truly listening to the people they’re hearing not just as test subjects but as humans with experience to share and teach others. They could include the history and culture of their subjects to better act as background to their work.” I connected my day-to-day life experience to be more empathetic to my research topic of water inequality specifically in predominately black areas. It shows I can connect areas of issues to everyday experiences.
Goal 4 (20%)
Based on (12A): Works independently toward goals by contributing and meeting deadlines.
I want to be the best teammate I can be to others and to do that means working on myself first. I want to work on meeting my own goals and supporting my counterparts
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I will focus on my deadlines and participation in the group activities | Final Project | I will work to improve myself in the group and work toward deadlines given in personal time |

In these text message it shows I worked on my article annotation and was able to give one of my teammates help on the assignment due to me working independtly.

In this text since I finished my slides early, I was able to check over our slides to make sure they fit the time requirements.
During my final project since I worked before hand on the layout of the project, I was able to give the idea of each group member having a different perspective on the hashtag that we choose. Bradley described this as an excellent and innovative idea that move the group forward.
Venus needed help with explanation of Reflection 2. Since I completed mine on time, I was able to give them assistance in the question that they had on the matter.
Goal 5 (25%)
Based on 13C: Use language to skillfully communicate with clarity and fluency.
I want the ability to have an idea and message that I’m able to easily communicate to the public to do that I have to improve my writing skills.
What will you do to learn the content/ develop the skill? | What examples will you add to the portfolio to demonstrate your learning? | What characteristics of the chosen examples demonstrate you have met your goal? |
I will make an effort to use adequate and correct vocabulary in my writing | Top 5 assignments interview Questions | I will write my questions and analysis of the text with efficient writing I will make sure the questions relay my messages clearly |
“‘Artificial intelligence is the future, but we must ensure it is a future that we want’ (Tim Cook). AI has been all the rave recently in not only academic fields, but also in day-to-day conversations. In this academic journal it is no different. Jenel T. Cavazos and her collages study the effects that not only artificial intelligence (AI) has but also cheating on students in higher up education.” In this article annotation I clearly state the objective of my piece and the information it’ll contain with outside context of the piece to make it more relatable to readers.
“Furthermore, Moore is attentive to the details of the heritage that the Gullah Geechee have produced on their land. She points out the importance and connection of the spiritual culture they’ve made on the land and losing it in a sense is losing a part of themselves and heritage. She shows the significance and fighting for the land that the Gullah Geechee are doing to still be able to connect with their ancestors on the land that belongs to them but are being swept from beneath their feet. ” In this writing I clearly communicate the loss of not only land but also culture the Gullah Geechee are facing.
“As an author using archival you have many decisions to make, and Payton wanted to make sure the everyday voices of Port-au-Prince residents were heard, and she used more local news articles. This changed the story to allow for the voices of the ones facing the inequalities to show more of their perspectives instead of the privileged voices that our usually shown. archives being biased due to what was every redeemable as savable at the time things like archival silence, which is the absence of historical records for marginalized people.” In Reflection #7 I describe the process and impact of the author choice of research very clearly.
“To make sure to keep clarity of text while not losing importance you could connect themes and phrases and rank the importance of the data. It could help with the removing of repetitions. I believe some people do not accept the reliability of qualitative because it is mostly story based. It is less about receiving numbers and specific answers and more about learning through interactions and experiences which if they do not have themselves can be difficult to believe. Coding is difficult, but if you take it one step at a time it improves your ability to not be overwhelmed with all the steps needed.” In my Reflection #6 I describe my understanding on qualitative data in a clear and efficient way.
“Researchers can make sure they include voices they study by truly listening to the people they’re hearing not just as test subjects but as humans with experience to share and teach others. They could include the history and culture of their subjects to better act as background to their work. To fairly organize and present the data they have collected they can make sure they respect the wishes of the subjects that they had data collected from and not collected incriminating information that could harm their future. Ethnography helps humanize communities facing inequalities by giving a deeper insight into their day-to-day life that you would have never experienced before. It allows more empathy to be put into the community since you see more of the inequalities firsthand.” In this Reflection I show understanding and connecting of Ethnography usefulness in research and everyday life. It shows me clear describing the impact that it can have in the world.
