Introduction
Midterm Reflection: I have enjoyed getting to work with my research team more. It was a struggle trying to find a time everyone could meet to talk about products and have our meetings, but once we got our schedules done it was easier. I do wish I worked on my other goals more, but since it’s so early in the semester it’s hard to work on those goals without all of our work to provide progression. although I have not gotten to work on all my goals, I do think I have excelled collaboration and written communication very well and i’m excited to continue to work on those skills along with the rest of my goals.
End-of-term Reflection: During this course I have mastered collaboration. All the work we did in this course involved working with our research group. Our research groups website is one of my biggest accomplishments. This is one very big artifact that shows how I mastered collaboration. One skill I am still developing is Skills for Lifelong Learning. I feel I will always be developing this skill for the rest of my life because we all learn new things everyday. I don’t believe I took a lot of risks in this course but I did put more pressure on my teammates to do our best and stay on track, especially toward the end of the semester when all of our work needed to be done and in a specific spot.
Goal 1 (10%)
Problem-Solving Skills- Constructs insightful problem statements with evidence of relevant factors.
- My second product shows how my research team and I conducted successful teaching lessons by learning from our mistakes and using tips that we found to be helpful. Therefore anyone that looks at this product can use it to try and solve any problems they may have with the attention in students.
Goal 2 (60%)
Collaboration- Helps collaboration move forward by articulating the merits of alternative ideas.
- This is my first product I created with another one of my team members. For this map we used the ISP website to collect known crime offenses and sorted them into an excel sheet. From there my partner coded them into a website which then created this interactive map. By doing this we practiced our understanding of coding and reading crime reports.
- My second artifact is our in class assignment. Here we got together with two other classmates and went over our products. This is when we got feed back on what we should change or what is good in our products. During this time I did learn how to use a different website to enter codes and how to show different levels of one map.
- This is our research team website where all of us as a team add our past work and current work. This was a long process to put together considering all products that are found on this website are from different people in our team. Finding time everyone could work on this website was hard with everyone’s schedules. Here I learned more about WordPress and working with different formats. (click the photo)
Goal 3 (10%)
Written Communication- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.
- The Refections I have written over this semester show an understanding of learning in my class. These are all posted on my personal website. The overall class reflection is also another good artifact for Written Communication since I wrote about my experience with CODES so far in my college career.
Goal 4 (10%)
Skills For Lifelong Learning- Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.
- My second product allowed me to take experiences I learned while at Alton Middle School and apply them to years to come. I also got to share our experiences and tips on what worked for our research group and what we found that didn’t work. Here I learned the different skills we gained while working with the students such as empathy and patience.
Goal 5 (10%)
Information Literacy- Accesses information using effective, well-designed search strategies and appropriate sources.
- My reflections from this course show reading from appropriate sources and using it effectively to reflect on them. While do this I also gained good information that helped me throughout the course. I was exposed to many types of writing and learned different ways to interpret them.
