Introduction

Mid-Term Reflection: I have learned to look more into relations between people and their community and/or environment. I enjoyed this part because it gives you different views on ideas and questions. Collaboration was definitely a strong suit for me this semester, but I would say I could have used more information literacy. Not that I have not done any information literacy this semester, but more of I dont have many examples of it compared to the other goals. I believe this because I truly feel the only time I have used this goal is when I am doing source analysis and not on a day to day basis like I did for the other goals. I would like to work more on Information Literacy for the end of the semester.

End-of-the-term Reflection: Collaboration was definitely my most enjoyed goal to research. We have learned to be a family and have some fun in research while still getting our work done. I feel all of my goals have been met and I am very proud of myself. I still want to work on developing information literacy more. I still believe the reason for this is because this semester was so surrounded around collaboration. We didnt necessarily have a big risk but we did have obstacles. Our research group has had 3 different professors so getting used to the different ways they teach was hard.

Goal 1 (20%)

Ethical Reasoning– Recognizes multilayered ethical issues and the cross-relationships among them.

This showed how looking at more than one side of a question can affect people. We made sure to take into count all ethnographical reasons.

Goal 2 (10%)

Global Learning– Uses deep knowledge of the historic and contemporary role and differential effects of human organizations and actions on global systems to develop and advocate for informed, appropriate action to solve complex problems.

This is an article that I was gathering research questions and information from for our source analysis worksheets we do. This shows that I was learning about other things that still had correlation with what we were doing in class but also me learning about something outside of the class.

Goal 3 (5%)

Information Literacy– Chooses sources appropriate to research questions by considering relevance, currency, authority, audience, and point of view.

Our class does a source analysis every so often and this is a great example of Information Literacy. We find an article that relates to what we are learning about in class and write about what we found. This pushes me to look into different areas of research and not just one area that I am comfortable with. We also watch movies that have more than one message and we write a paper on that and connect it to what we are learning or talking about in our research group.

Goal 4 (15%)

Oral Communication– Uses compelling, appropriate delivery techniques.

This is a podcast that Dr. Despain and some of the CODES students did for riverbender. At first I did not want to do this podcast simply because I have never did one before and I was nervous to speak on one. I pushed myself to try something new, and I got through it! I developed more of the oral communication skill while developing my presentation skills as well.

Goal 5 (50%)

Collaboration– Helps collaboration move forward by articulating the merits of alternative ideas or proposals.

As a class we do a lot of collaboration. We worked together to make three major questions that we will spend time gathering information about to hopefully have a soultion for those questions. We worked together to make a syllabus for the class based on what order we thought would make more sense. Make a syllabus for our own class was different for everyone. In the last class everything was pretty much set up for us but this time we got to build our class from scratch. During this it was important to hear everyones thoughts on the problems and include everyone on the situation.
