My topic in Dr. Matta’s research group is celebrities in environmental social media. This has been my main focus throughout the semester. I wanted to look more into environmental celebrities and how they interact with their social media pages. How they reached out to their followers in an interesting way but still educating. Below I have explained and summarized two scholarly articles ushered into my focus. I used Google Scholar to help me research this topic and choose the articles below.
Short description
- Celebrities have recreated prominent roles in the cultural politics of climate change, and social media exchanges with their fans. Staring at documentaries about climate change. Celebrities are afforded these roles in documentaries and help give climate change more meaning and give it a chance to reach out to a larger audience.
- Celebrities are well-practiced in environmental politics. the involvement of actors and singers gives a positive edge to the ongoing coverage of climate change. the link shown below explains how it attempts to understand how celebrities former a political protest, and also change the logistics in news production.
Findings/Results
- Stars represent the environmental concerns of their audiences they embody the sentiments of their audiences. It is in this context that celebrities have gained their authority as political, social, and environmental.

5. Discussion (or bullet points) of how this helps us, what questions it raises, and what experiments it suggests.
- I think NGRREC should widen its social media output and an advertisement two people with higher platforms
- These articles show how celebrities’ output contributes widely and can reach a greater audience.
If possible, describe the papers together – how does one paper’s topic reinforce the other’s?
- I think the first summary that I write about explains how it reinforces the second is it to where the second essay wants to uncover help celebrity news changes the news and coverage of climate change the first essay explains how.
- Unlike everyone in my group, I wasn’t able to do an experiment. If I do have a chance next term and my focus is still on celebrities in environmental social media I would like to do a survey experiment.
Communication helps us in climate change by getting the word out to people who don’t know a lot of information on climate change. Social media is now a big part of communication within the world. Being active on it and actively posting what is happening on our planet can help people understand what they can do to help.
ii. How does it relate to NGRREC?
- While looking at their social media platforms only a few of their post reach a wide audience, while others stay around 20 likes. Maybe looking at how other environmental groups run they’re social might give them a better outreach.
iii. Could we expand the experiment to make it better?
- Yes, we could move forward working on this topic. I would say if we do move forward, there needs to be a significant amount of change in our group interactions with one another—project planning, and working with NGRREC on their social media.
