Youth Education Dr. Martinez CODE 122 22 April 2025 Mixed Methods After meeting with and interviewing Zach at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Academy, we have a better idea of what we are working toward in the coming semesters. We asked questions regarding how the kids at the academy learn and what changes are feasible to their after-school program. There were many themes that emerged, but a few outshone the others. For example, technological advancement was one recurring theme. Zach said on multiple occasions that he’d like to utilize technology and potentially drones to help kids visualize these water conservation issues, “Drones! That’s what I’m trying to get right now. We have…

Youth EducationDr. MartinezCODE 12218 March 2025Lab #2 – Water Conservation CurriculumOne theme emerging in the project is the concept of water conservation. It’s the central theme because water conservation can fall into other facets of water, such as the cleanliness of water, water security, and how water affects human health. One example says that some people have limited access to clean water. One activity regarding aquifers is interactive and talks about things that filter water from underground. Another theme is water usage, which puts into perspective how much water they use, which is what the matching activity is based on.One group split we saw while researching lesson plans was the…

Reflection 5
Marques Rutlin Transdisciplinary Communication Dr.Despain 22 October 2024 Reflection 5 While reading You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, I noticed that the author used many metaphors and symbolism while describing the mother. Instead of calling the mother wise, they used the words dictionary, thesaurus, and encyclopedia quote that felt important “My mother and grandmother’s conversation doesn’t belong in the cloud. That old song is too sacred for the internet”(Alexie). This quote talks about the cassette tape with the recording of the mom speaking the tribal language. I felt like this quote was added to show how truly sacred and how much the mother meant to them. The author states…

Reflection #6
Marques Rutlin Transdisciplinary Communication Dr.Despain 29 October 2024 Reflection #6 One tactic I used while reading this text is taking in chunks, there is a lot of information to take while reading this book. I highlighted and underlined important phrases and text in each paragraph to truly understand what the text was saying. For example on the first page, I highlighted “when Prospect Robbins moored his boat at the point in the alluvial swamps where the Arkansas and Missipi rivers meet.” I highlighted this text because I felt like it set the stage and tone of the story. In addition to setting the scene, this information informed the year and where…

“Youth Education” Dr. Martinez CODE 120 5 November 2024 How Youth Education Can Improve Water Equity Our ultimate goal is to implement more water infrastructure education for the youth, influencing a new generation to become further aware of issues regarding all-around water infrastructure in the future—complex systems are composed of many interconnected parts. Simple systems are systems in which components interact with each other to serve a purpose but aren’t connected in a way like complex systems. Understanding water equity amongst youth is essential because “although we can certainly do our part to conserve this valuable resource, today’s youth will ultimately be responsible for sustaining Earth’s future water supply” (KEYE). …
