CODES221 Process Description
I’m working with JJK foundation to promote water infrastructure lesson plans for kids. JJK specifically recommended lesson plans for kids that are interactive and engaging for students. To collect my data I visited many sources on interactive lesson plans for kids. While researching I looked for lesson plans that were informational, appropriate for all ages, and engaging for students. With this data I created an annotated bibliography that included other plant topics including explaining parts of the plants, birds eye view of the garden, and state flowers. The annotated bibliography helped guide my research and narrow my options down to focus specifically on soil and talk about native plants to Illinois. I also selected one lesson out of those I found to do at a water fair at JJK. The main lesson I will be focusing on is a lesson plan that explores what soil is and the components of soil. I chose this lesson because I felt it was not only age appropriate for students but the option to make a physical connection and observation of how different types of soil feel. Throughout this time, I met with Zach, our partner at JJK and he guided my thinking to specifically lead with information on soil and then going into a native plant of Illinois. He also mentioned plants that were grown during this time like, pumpkins, potatoes, radishes and rye cover crop. I will be incorporating that information in the lesson I am holding at the water fair.
