My Goals

My first semester at SIUE as a freshman Music Education major has been a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs. Although it has been stressful, I’ve met so many amazing people who have pushed me to be my best self academically and socially. The picture below was taken on my friend Ayiana’s birthday. With my friends, we planned a day full of fun activities like a scavenger hunt, pinata bash, eating cupcakes, and ending the day at Texas Roadhouse. Coming into Codes I never thought I could develop presentation skills, analysis, reading comprehension, goal setting, time management, and many other skills. I’ve been able to apply these skills that CODES has given me in different classes too.

This has been one of my biggest accomplishments this semester. Being In Unison scholar. In unison scholars St. Louis Symphony Orchestra provides up to six scholarships for young African American undergraduate students studying in a music-related field at a greater St. Louis area accredited college/university. In addition to scholarships, students receive mentoring with SLSO staff and musicians and participate in or attend select concert events. I’ very excited to be working with the St.Louis Symphony

This was one of the assignments I was most proud of during the first semester. I was confident not only in my group’s research but also in my research and felt like as a group we did an amazing job. Throughout the whole process of collecting information and analyzing information, we met as a group many times and Panera and worked very efficiently. When it was first assigned I was very nervous to do a group assignment with people I barely knew, at least in high school you’ve been going to school with those people for years. But during this experience, I created some very good long-lasting bonds and grew as a writer.
