In CODES 121, I learned about sustainability issues and wicked problems, how to compose a multimedia essay, how to create a ePortfolio website using word press, and how to shoot and edit a short video. The items below dictate the following goals completed this semester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"content-x\">Goal 1 (10%)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>P<em>aying close attention to course material relating to other cultures in relation to said fields of stud<\/em>y<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In class we were assigned to read the article &#8220;More than 12 years after Hurricane Katrina, scientists are learning what makes some survivors more resilient than others&#8221; which talked about how different cultures were able to bounce back after a disaster, and how socioeconomic conditions played a role in someones&#8217; ability to bounce back: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityorie-ybu9908.slack.com\/archives\/C03U2T4CS4F\/p1664294675024669?thread_ts=1664216302.590689&amp;cid=C03U2T4CS4F\">https:\/\/communityorie-ybu9908.slack.com\/archives\/C03U2T4CS4F\/p1664294675024669?thread_ts=1664216302.590689&amp;cid=C03U2T4CS4F<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 2 (25%)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thinking critically about my use of language in class.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout DP#1, I had to think critically about the use of my language, and whether it was effective, powerful, or appropriate. I learned how to think more about the words I write: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eportfolio.siue.edu\/nicholas-fowler\/digital-project-1\/\">https:\/\/eportfolio.siue.edu\/nicholas-fowler\/digital-project-1\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 3 (25%) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Critically thinking about class material.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slack post digesting the content of Chapter 3 of &#8220;Sustainable World: Approaches to Analyzing &amp; Resolving Wicked Problems&#8221; by Sonya Remington-Doucette: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityorie-ybu9908.slack.com\/archives\/C03U2T4CS4F\/p1663619386694129?thread_ts=1662571343.928969&amp;cid=C03U2T4CS4F\">https:\/\/communityorie-ybu9908.slack.com\/archives\/C03U2T4CS4F\/p1663619386694129?thread_ts=1662571343.928969&amp;cid=C03U2T4CS4F <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 4 (25%)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Keep an open mind when creating my solutions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During my work on DP#2, I was unable to get access of the material that Despain had given us to make our videos. So, I learned how to use the Microsoft editor on my dorm&#8217;s computer to edit and fix the video to my standard: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uQIyDMPSvO4\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uQIyDMPSvO4<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 5 (15%)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Get used to contributing in a group setting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst my work on the project has only just recently begun on the project, my involvement in the digital humanities project  &#8220;Imaginaries and Modernities among West China Missionaries&#8221; research project with Dr. Wilmott has allowed me to understand what its like to contribute in a project with other people working on a specific goal: (first 10 items relating to Yangtze) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chinamiddlekingdom.siue.edu\/omeka-s\/s\/westchinamissions\/page\/westchinamissions\">https:\/\/chinamiddlekingdom.siue.edu\/omeka-s\/s\/westchinamissions\/page\/westchinamissions<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction During the first semester at SIUE, I&#8217;ve become more accustomed to the aspects of college, and have settled in nicely at the college.
