- Reflection #4: Synthesizing Reading with Experience (Due October 24)
This is your chance to synthesize your on-site work and research with the thinking of other people who are doing similar work. How does their project align with or differ from yours? Be specific. What have you learned from your work that adds greater insight to theirs? What reading do you need to get a hold of to give you greater insight about other similar projects or initiatives? I want to talk about some of this when we meet in class on Oct 24.
But instead of reflecting on what you did at the Gardens this week, I’d like you each to take a couple of paragraphs to describe how you are keeping plugged into your group’s work at the Garden and how you are still able to contribute even though you’re away.
I was unable to attend the gardens last week, but in order to keep up with my group I sent a message to the group chat asking for a brief catch up on what they did on Thursday and what I can do on my end to help. Although no response, I have been looking over our implementation plan and I know there is a group in Dr. Jack’s class similar to ours.
Our group has found some good pieces of evidence to improve our research. I hope to find out more about the visit Thursday, last time we visited our group spoke to Jenn and she was very helpful. She offered the names of some resources, including a group of students who are researching slavery at WashU. In our plan we were able to include a link to more information about their project in our plan.
When talking with my group this week, I hope to gain more information on whether or not they were able to get in contact with archives in order for us to get tax records, letters, or diaries from the time period for our project. I also hope to see a few of their notes to understand what I missed on our visit.
