(25%)Based on (4) Global Learning “Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.”
I came to class prepared throughout the semester for the class discussions on Braiding Sweetgrass that often mention Indigenous Knowledge.
“The study looked at Project Green Reach, a program at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which has been teaching kids about gardening and science since 1914. PGR involves K-8 students from local schools in a fun, hands-on learning using both indoor and outdoor spaces. Overall, the study concluded that PGR has a positive impact on students, helping them appreciate gardening, science, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden itself. (Student Led Research)” This is a quote from my team’s final presentation that I wrote. This shows evidence because I was able to summarize and learn from an article that mentions the problem of at-risk youth and introducing them to community gardens.
I attended 90% of class sessions.
25%)Based on (7) Skills for Lifelong Learning“Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.”
Below is the final project my group and I created. I was able to use my learning from CODE 220 and also apply my outside skills to form the creative side of the project.
I was also able to get active at SIUE outside of the classroom by being a part of the America Reads program through Americorps.
(25%)Based on (11) Reading“Evaluates texts’ scholarly significance to apply reading to other contexts or issues.”
In the image below, it shows the evaluation of articles read in class to show my understanding and even how they relate to each other.
These articles mention the big issue of under-representation of Indigenous knowledge and how we can learn from their practices, which relates to our class book “Braiding Sweetgrass”.
25%)Based on (13) Written Communication“Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose.”
Below is my reflection from week 10. You can see evidence of this goal in my writing by my understanding of context. I was able to relate my personal experiences with the author of our class book and her message.
