In my group’s spatial mapping, we looked at how far away college students’ essentials were, such as the local gas station, Target, gym, and Walmart. Each one ranged from 2 minutes away, one could be just 2 minutes away such as the fitness center on campus, to 10 minutes away, which was the nearest Walmart. This\u00a0drive for a student to take at any time is not terrible at all, but if the student does not own a car, it becomes more difficult for them. There are many other choices such as riding a bike, uber,\u00a0and bicycling. If you take the bicycle, your 10-minute drive becomes a 20-minute journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conversely, the bus only departs every 30 minutes, so you must account for that, the bus fare, and all of the stops along the route. This may be not a particularly cost- or time-effective option. However, because they do not have access to vehicles, students must travel such roads on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is an excellent example of spatial unfairness, and one way to address it is to build up a separate bus specifically for siue students to take for free, as we already pay a lot to get to university. Being a full-time student can be challenging, and with things not being easily accessible, it can a lot of stress on top of the average student’s life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
