Reflections

Reflection #1

In the start of brainstorming we came together to first understand what “products’ represented and meant. After we came to a collective understanding we realized our previous projects and assignments have been preparing us for this project and specific topics/sectors from our have already been specifically researched by one of us. During our discussions we concluded that we would continue to research and formulate products based on specific sectors from past projects.  With this strategy it should decrease the difficulties of collaboration for the collective project. One line that really stuck with me from Emergent Strategy was “Change is constant.” Collaboration being a crucial aspect of our projects necessary changes will be made to ensure that all team members are aligned and resources are optimally utilized .

For one of our latest projects we’re working with violence impacted students  Alton Middle. Our main goal for them was to gain the knowledge of adequate video editing and learning how to create digital stories to spread awareness of these impacted students. With their stories reaching local leaders and the community it would influence the opening of new after school/summer programs and/or enhance existing ones. One product I came up with was an instructional presentation on how to build confidence within the youth population catered toward youth leaders. When youth are confident, they are more likely to engage in community service and social activism. This can lead to greater community involvement and positive social change.

Reflection #2

In Land as pedagogy she highlights the importance of oral tradition in transmitting knowledge and wisdom. She emphasizes how stories and teachings from ancestors are crucial for understanding contemporary issues. From a CODES perspective our knowledge gained from passed projects set the foundation of our capstone project. With every step forward in work  we’ve got closer to gaining the adequate research for our goals. Without that previous information acquired we wouldn’t be at this point in our research. Furthermore, from a broader standpoint when it comes to society there is nothing new under the sun. Understanding the past can help us recognize patterns in human behavior and societal change, giving us insight into present issues. Ancestors stories provide insights into cultural values, norms, and practices. This context helps us understand how historical experiences shape current society and societal issues.

Reflection #3

For the previous semesters principle #1: Join the community was most relevant to me. It’s challenging for me to connect with others, especially when they come from backgrounds or experiences that I find hard to relate to on a personal level. During the first few months, I would intentionally distance myself from others in the classroom, only interacting when it was necessary for a group assignment or collaborative work. However, it wasn’t until I started working closely with my research teammates that I realized how much their input helped deepen my content. They often sparked ideas I would have never considered on my own, ultimately enhancing the quality of my work overall.

While on the other hand currently principle #5: Tell Better Stories is most relevant. I typically follow a standard informative structure to convey my messages effectively. At times, I also strive to connect with my target audience by employing a range of strategies, such as using vocabulary and a tone that resonates with them. In my future writing, I plan to explore different structures and approaches to maintain intrigue and keep my audience engaged throughout. This adaptability will not only enhance my writing but also foster a deeper connection with my readers.

Reflection #4

Well in my case my target audience would be slightly older than me. However, considering the target audience for my research, I need to think about what will engage them effectively. Reflecting on my own experience as a college student, I’m often drawn to work that presents complex information clearly and concisely, using straightforward language and visuals that simplify the understanding process.

With this in mind, I would aim to shape my project by emphasizing clarity and visual appeal. I would organize my written content to guide the reader step-by-step through my findings and conclusions. Ultimately, the goal is to make the content accessible and engaging, helping the audience connect with the research and understand its significance.
