So far within my first semester freshman majoring in Speech and Language Pathology and being a part of the CODES program at SIUE I can that the journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I feel as though my experience here so far has allowed me to think outside of the box and be open to learning and trying new things. As wells as getting out of my comfort zone when working with others and meeting new people.
My proudest accomplishment was our Multimodal Composition #3: Collaborative Reparative Justice Maps. This assignment invited me to not only work with others, but research about the impacts of the Black Lives Matter movement within the St. Louis region. It was absolutely liberating to find out about the impacts the movement had and how it has shaped activists and communities. Within this project and focusing on specific locations within the region I was able to find out about events that I didn’t even know existed. Knowing more about this topic within this region made me feel seen and heard as a black woman on the SIUE campus.

I plan to continue to update and share other thrilling and substantial experiences that made me feel strongly about my experiences in the near future.
