First-Week Introduction
There are many things that I would like to achieve this semester! I hope to gain a stronger ability to critically think about material regarding the research we conduct. Along with this, I want to increase my skills in problem-solving, as it comes to addressing areas of need and trouble-shooting.
Midterm Introduction
For the midterm, there are many things to say how the part of the semester went. It can be said that overall it went well within this class. I was happy with the quality of the majority of my work because I incorporated my own thoughts and findings. With that being said, I was able to apply the material that I’ve learned in this class to my others. Specifically, units like the coding methods and survey construction. At times, I struggled due to the balance of taking macro economics while maintaining the extra weight to finish assignments for my group in the other research class.
Final Introduction
Now that the semester is over, I’ve learned a considerable amount of information that will help guide my research in the future. I proud to say that I haven’t missed class and while being able to balance the workload of each of my classes. Despite having to in-counter a toxic work environment while trying to be a good student, it pushed me to ensure that I studied the material. With this, my growth regarding research has grown tremendously. Honestly, before this class, I didn’t have any ideas regarding the methods of research other than quantitative and qualitative, however, I was able to gain a deeper level of this understanding as it relates to our surveys we conducted this year. This brings me to the strategies that I hope to take away from this class. One of the strategies is to data clean to ensure more accurate results of data. Data cleaning is a method that I hope to practice more, because it makes sure the work is credible as it supports the purpose for research. Another strategy is to remember the different types of interviews. This is important to me because there will be more data to conduct in the future. KNowing how to identify which interviews to conduct will save me time while ensuring that my research reaches its objective. Ultimately, I enjoyed this class, and hope to put my knowledge to use within the coming years!
Course Goals
Quantitive Literacy 10%
This year, I hope to utlize data to strengthen my pieces of writing and presentations. Along with that, focusing on this outcome will help prove my claims and allow me to critically construct arguments. Ultimately, by utilizing data in numercial, will demonstrate my ablilty to identify trends and patterns.

Construct pieces of data using spreadsheets, docs and word. | Data Profile Reflections Article Annotations Top 5 Interview Content Analysis | Reliable Data Structured Ask Questions |
Here is a example of quantitative literacy through the data profile I created. It demonstrates a clear analysis of the the research study conducted by Dr. Bradley. It can be said this version was the original version of my document before I decided to edit it. Processes such as Data Cleaning was something that enhanced the quality of my data. Instead of keeping a draft of the data I collected, I then decided to analyze and summarize what the data meant. Effectively, I was able to demonstrate my ability to transform qualitative data into a summary from a data sheet based on the edits suggested.

Another example of effective quantitative analysis would be my Interview Content Analysis. Throughout the interview, I was able to utilize techniques, while being able to apply my knowledge regarding coding themes. Concisely, I studied the videos and templates given to us prior to completing the assignment. From there, I was able to identify 3 themes and phrases that repeatedly came up. Ultimately, I gathered that college transitions were influential in this respondent’s life and concluded that there needs to be more discussion around the topic. Ultimately, it can be evaluated that I effectively executed my ability to conduct research, through research of coding methods and usage of qualitative data in regards to identifying patterns.
Oral Communication 20%
During this semester, I hope to master my public speaking skills by creating organized messages. While utilizing speech skills to help convey others about the ideas that I have.

Application of this goal could be in regards to discussions and group presentations. | Data Profile Reflections Article Annotations Top 5 | Indicators that i’ve met my goal are positive feedback from my peers. |

Here is the final project that my group and I presented. As a student, this project was challenging because I had a large load to carry regarding work. However, I was able to implement my posts to demonstrate my ability to understand Archivable Data in regards to social media. Again, with the leadership of Jasmine and I, we were able to effectively examine the ideas behind the #, Sayhername. From there, we presented our findings, aiming to educate our peers about the hashstags’s influence. This example clearly demonstrates that I’ve reached my goals in terms of understanding archival research while being able to present our application to the class.
Below are the notes that I took while reading the assigned chapters. Throughout almost all the discussions that I’ve participated in, I used these posts its guide my responses. Most importantly, these annotations demonstrate dedication as it regards understanding topics of Ethnography and interviews. The book helped broaden my knowledge of research when it comes to analyzing conducted studies.

Intercultural Knowledge and Competence 30%
This learning outcome will illustrate my critical thinking about ideas and the interconnceting problems associated with them. Including the ablilty to identify factors, such as history, economics, and politics.

Define the interactions and backgrounds of groups. Analyzing material to identify and gain understanding. | Data Profile Reflections Article Annotations Top 5 | Utilizing any framework. Referencing ideas from the articles or book. |
All articles show critical thinking regarding culture, identity, and history. These analysis further demonstrate the intercultural skills that I exhibit throughout the articles. Ultimately, skills like this will ease the process for conducting survey’s and group work.
In Henrietta Top 5, I asked ethics questions to illustrate my critical thinking behind ethical research. With this being said, this inspired me to think of the different approaches researchers could have used in this situation. Moreover, I was able to effectively identify that both studies were violations of informed consent and further served as a reminder to conduct my own research ethically.

Another assignment that illustrated my ability to construct intercultural Knowledge and Competence would be my Top 5 assignment regarding the Psychology of Groups. I thoroughly identified the key ingredients through transforming groups by reading and analyzing the idea behind norms. I found that establishing norms at the beginning is essential for group success as it reduces tensions. Ultimately, this type of evidence signifies my ability to evaluate group culture and assess the interconnected factor associated with it.

Lastly, the Chapters 1 & 2 Top demonstrate another effective point to how I was able to depict group culture. With that being said, I was able to construct a claim that dives into how groups can highlight findings through bias. Again, this observation was made through the text, as it illustrates the importance of acknowledging dynamics such as this one.

Problem Solving 20%
Throughout the course, I hope to develop my ability to identify solutions snd their factors in forms of writing and presentations. With this, I’m aiming to construct presatnions and pieces of writing in a way that demonstrates strong evidence.

One of the objectives that I’ve created for myself was to effectively identify solutions. This piece of writing best exemplifies my attempt to do so because it closely examines the effect of positionality. As a researcher, I found this important to study because it could potentially benefit my own research. In regards, I was able to answer this question by stating that postionality helps researcher asses the questions they ask respondents. In this situation, I was able to reflect on how my positionality might hinder the process for accurate data as it could show bias.

Reflection #4 is another prime example of my ability to problem solve. With that being said, both sentences demonstrate a complex idea regarding how researchers should include the stories of the respondents. In this essay, I’ve stated what researchers can do, when it comes to identifying themes, relating back to the purpose of their research. To go on even further, I was able to contribute to our discussion by closely evaluating the given chapters, while sharing my interpretations of the question as it relates to the book and reflection.

Civic Engagement 20%
I choose the learning outcome civic engagement to demonstrate my collaboration skills when working with material outside of CODES. This includes ideas that relate to our learning, but illustrating critical thinking with outside references.

In my essay Fieldwork or Controlled Lab Experiments, I’ve effectively demonstrated my usage of civic engagement. Moreover, the analysis illustrates my thinking behind why might researchers choose Fieldwork over controlled lab experiments. Ultimately, this essay allowed me to look closer into the differences of experiments while it serves as a reminder to consider which types are best for my own studies.
Another piece of work that exhibits my ability to illustrate critical thinking with outside references would have to do with my reflection of the Challenger Disaster. In this reflection, I carefully examined the lessons we could learn from the Challenger Disaster by identifying ideas of groupthink, social loafing and facilitation. It can be said that all of these factors lead to the mis-communication among various streams, resulting in the failure of the O-rings. With that being said, the article Psychology of Groups, challenged me to apply what I’ve learned. Ultimately, I’ve demonstrated a strong understanding of the situation by applying my knowledge of group dynamics to evaluate the psychological cause behind the disaster.
