I plan to practice these goals because I know these are things I need to work on. I plan to show my progress day by day in codes and the research class. I am willing to do anything I can for an A.
8c: Develops clear, innovative central messages with significant supporting materials.
Have you ever read a passage, but you couldn’t quite understand the message or the point of what you just read? Yeah, me too. I’ve actually been having this problem for a while. I figured to understand the passage, you actually have to speak to the passage as to what you’re reading. My goal is to keep working on this because I firmly believe to be able to read, you must know how to write, and vice versa. Understanding the main idea or central idea is essential for comprehending the literal definition of it. I plan to not only work on this skill, but, support what I just read and analyzed to simply state and support my claim. I typically used to do a lot of reading but not necessarily understand the text, and go off of my opinion and what I personally thought about the situation. My goal is to not only make me understand it, but my audience as well.
9b: Identifies and evaluate multiple approaches for solving problems.
I believe in the term ‘ there’s always two sides to a story.’ I believe that applies for any and everything, If you think there is more solutions there definitely is. 97% percent of the time. My experience I personally have with identifying ‘more problems’, If I couldn’t find it, I would simply assume that it did not exist or it was irrelevant. Which can I be honest? I still do it, it just needs more work. I believe no idea is wrong in no way, shape or form. I really want to try to understand the problem and brainstorm how to come up with a solution. Once I believe I came up with a good solution, research it. If I believe or simply a group im in agrees on multiple factors, we will come up with one big solution together and identify a problem solver. My overall goal, is to be more open minded with a problem and find out what other perspectives I can look into.
13a: Demonstrates a thorough understanding of context, audience and purpose.
I’ve always tried in my personal experience to understand one key part. Whether it be a passage, a person or why something may have occurred. I haven’t always been right. But to get here to reach to prove I understand, nothing is more effective than communication and engagement. When generally speaking about audience, you would ask certain questions about what the audience’s interest may be, or to understand a context, you would look more into it or see other’s perspective for a more efficient idea, same for purpose, you would ask why something is the way it is. My personal goal to understand what i’m interested or working on, my goal is to really connect why something is the way it is.
1c: Tailors communication strategies to effectively listen, express, and adapt to others to establish relationships both in person and online.
Learning how to communicate in different ways can be easy yet hard. When COVID hit, I had to adjust to a whole new environment, skill and people. It was not easy at first at all, considering I was also a freshman. I suppose you could say I have experience in it, but to say i’ve been good at it, is definitely an understatement. If I was asked to adapt to a new learning environment tomorrow and switch my whole process and routine i’m already used to, I would struggle by a long shot. I firmly believe that is a problem as well though. Anything can happen and I want to make sure I am skilled in every communication aspect there is. My overall goal with this is to hopefully be put in a scenario where I have to step out of my comfortable everyday communication strategy, to simply make room for nothing but growth.
2a: Systematically analyzes assumptions to develop logical plans to solve problems.
problem. Even if I have an assumption, ill stick with the assumption and not necessarily develop a logical plan. Something I have personally discovered is listing all the assumptions related to the problem, whether it be opinions, brainstorming thoughts, and beliefs. I want to work on this because this is not my strongest suite at all. Coming up with assumptions and turning them into overall logical solutions can definitely be rewarding. My goal is to show I can brainstorm and develop actual logical solutions.
Overall, my goals are to not only complete these but making sure I understand them. Being a criminal justice major involves a lot of communication and problem solving.
Sincerely,
Tyauna Tomazzoli
