Students team up with real community organizations in the St. Louis area to help solve local problems, like environmental issues, food insecurity, or historical injustices that still affect neighborhoods today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each semester has a different focus. Students start by researching a problem, talking to people affected by it, and learning about its history. Then they move into actually working on solutions with their community partner. At the end, they share what they found and built through presentations, maps, videos, and other digital projects at campus showcases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along the way, students learn skills like teamwork, communication, and how to use technology to tell a story or make a point. CODES is also built to support students who are Black, Latinx, low-income, or the first in their family to go to college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the coursework, CODES has given me a genuine sense of community during college, something that has meant a great deal as a first-generation student navigating this path largely on my own. The program has also opened my eyes to forms of injustice that often go unnoticed or unaddressed, deepening my understanding of the issues I hope to fight for in my future career.
