Introduction
During this first half of the semester, I enjoyed the idea of being a college student. There were times where I felt discouraged and had trouble balancing my real life and school, but luckily with the help of my peers, I got right back on track better than ever. I remember when I attended orientation our group leaders emphasized about time management and now, I see why. I learned that because I am a freshman in college, I’m not going to always get things right. With that being said, I cannot be too hard on myself. A goal I believe I excelled must be not giving up even when I felt like I wanted too.
During the second semester, I would like to continue to work on time management and maintaining proper academic skills. Time management is a key factor in not overwhelming myself through the school year and keeping up with assignments. I’m learning this slowly. Maintaining proper academic skills plays a big role connected to my scholarship. With being a first-generation student, I’m expected to do good in school and I would love to see myself graduate in 3 years and make my family proud.
Goal 1a (30%)
Demonstrates ability and commitment to collaboratively work across and within community contexts and structures.
An artifact I choose to demonstrate my learning would be MC #2. I worked with three more peers effectively and we all made sure to do our parts but also help eachother as we went along. This is a picture of one of my paragraphs and imagine I used in our MC.
Goal 2b (15%)
Takes risks in approaches to learning to create new knowledge.
An artifact I chose to demonstrate my learning will be discussion leading. Discussion leading demonstrates my learning by encouraging different perspectives and introducing an environment where unconventional ideas are welcomed. Being open to different viewpoints and adapting new information during the discussions can lead to the development of new strategies and approaches. This assignment also helps develop leadership skills.
Goal 4a (25%)
Adapts and applies a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures while initiating meaningful interaction with other cultures to address significant global problems.
An artifact I chose to demonstrate my learning will be our source analyses. This assignment helped me break down and identify each section that matters whether it be an article or podcast. With breaking down the assignment it allows me to get a better understanding. Our source analyses enhances my critical thinking by encouraging me to evaluate the context behind the work, important facts about the source content, and allows me to improve our comprehension skills. Lastly, it helps boosts my writing and communication skills as I learn to articulate my thoughts.
Goal 7b (20%)
Pursues knowledge and educational experience beyond the classroom.
An artifact I chose to demonstrate my learning will be our “Flint” movie source analysis. This took place outside of class which we later brought ourselves together to discuss it. Outside of class, I read our book to help provide myself with more information if needed. I developed critical thinking skills. This allowed me to engage with diverse sources and viewpoints that enhance my ability to find solutions. Another important skill that I have developed is research. One thing I will do differently next semester pertaining this goal will be finding more time to be able to fulfill this goal.
Goal 12b (10%)
Facilitates collaborator’s contributions by building upon their contributions and noticing when someone is not participating and inviting them to engage.
An artifact I chose to demonstrate my learning will be our Miroboard. With using Miroboard, it allows us to engage our own ideas and add them so they can all somehow connect together. This demonstrates my learning because it shows all of our contributions and communication skills. It also shows that we’re taking into consideration of what is being stated.
