Introduction

In the first half of the semester, I learned to identify problems using different approaches and to identify authors’ claims with supporting material. Also, not all problems can be solved with one solution. I have become open-minded. I enjoyed discussing our points of view about an issue and learning other opinions and ideas. At first, I struggled with writing an essay as I didn’t write much during high school, but I have become better at writing and analyzing material. I think that I have excelled at Goal number 4.  I will participate with my peers and teachers, interact with my group, and never let anybody feel excluded or isolated. I will invite them to join the group or discuss developing new interactive skills to talk with my classmates. I have communicated with my peers in CODES and spent time with the team outside of CODES and inside the classroom. I have developed friendships with them, and we help each other thrive in the college journey. I hope to gain more knowledge about problem-solving and visit around to learn the causes.

Goal 1 (20%)

I will pursue knowledge and go beyond my classroom education to learn outside school and experience different places and perspectives.

I’ve taken the time to look into the organizations we are working with.
Exploring their websites has taught me more about Heartland Conservative and JJKFan. This has given me a better idea of what they do and what their goals and plans are for the future. It has also given me better understand some problems and the community. As I am new to this state, I have a deep respect for the work these organizations do, and I am eager to connect with them to gain a deeper understanding of their goals and contribute to their ideas.

Goal 2 (20%)

I will use my resources to provide supporting material to support my central message and give a clear idea.

I have used the resources given to me by my teacher, Dr. Despain, and articles. When working on my Digital project, I used some of the material provided to me, like video production and Rhetorical analysis supporting material, to help me write my reflections 3 and 4 on the article “Why so many children of immigrants rise to the top” by Peter Coy. The supporting material helped me better understand what I was looking for, like the author’s purpose, goal, and argument. I hope to use all the resources I can to perfect my work, ask more questions when I need help, and become fast at identifying the purpose of the article or problem I am writing or reading about.

Goal 3 (30%)

I will evaluate problem-solving using different approaches when identifying them and developing new problem-solving skills.

Working in my CODES class 121, I’ve learned to analyze problems differently. One example was when I had to read an article by Peter Coy about many children of immigrants being more successful than U.S. parent children. While reading, I identified different problems the author was trying to correct people’s misunderstandings. During my time in CODES so far, I have learned that you need to be open-minded and understand that many different things and people are affected by a change in trying to solve a problem.

Goal 4 (20%)

I will participate with my peers and teachers, interact with my group, and never let anybody feel excluded or isolated. I will invite them to join the group or discuss developing new interactive skills to talk with my classmates.

I get along with all my classmates and invite them to have lunch or study together. I interact with people in my group. We talk and get to see everyone’s ideas or points of view. We all learn something new or develop new skills. As I’ve started talking more to people in my class, I’ve learned a few things about them that have helped me understand people and ideas when exposed to new problems or material. From our group discussion, I’ve learned that we all have different backgrounds, influencing how we approach problems. I hope to be exposed to more people with different ideas that can help me develop skills and better understand how to approach people with different ideas but the same goal as me. For the next half of the semester, I hope to have artifacts to add from my DP #3 as I help have more group work.

Goal 5 (10%)

I will use formal and educational communication, proper grammar, and clarity.

I’ve learned a few things about video editing, developed better presentation skills when writing and presenting my group photo essay, and expanded my vocabulary. At the beginning of CODES, I didn’t have many writing skills or a background in analyzing text to understand the author’s point. I have developed skills in analyzing the themes and settings of the stories and articles to understand the claim better. I’ve also gotten better at identifying important details in my reflections. However, I am still building better-supporting sentences to back up to the point and learning to take paragraph breaks so I don’t have run-on sentences. Hopefully, by the end of the semester, I will have developed the skills to write without making the same mistakes I am now.
