End-of-Term Portfolio

Introduction

Throughout this semester, there were many ups and downs as I worked on projects and learned new material. There was honestly a struggle with me developing certain skills such as public speaking (which falls under Goal 8) and with Goal 7. I had to adjust Goal 7 to a lower percentage due to the fact that I did not have many out-of-class opportunities to develop that skill. With Goal 8, I let my nervousness take over and did not do as well with my presentation during the Digital Project #3. I made minimal eye contact with the audience and read from my notes majority of the time. Next time, I could practice in front of more people to get used to speaking. I did not take as many risk as I thought I would throughout the semester. I feel I was afraid of failure so I did not want to go outside the box of the assignments and instead just followed the guidelines. To learn from this, I want to be able to take more risks rather than being scared to.

Above is my Digital Project 1. This project shows how I was able to properly tell a story while also making my main idea clear and relevant to my audience. For next time, I could improve the story telling aspect of this by adding more dialogue and narration.

Above is my Digital Project 3. This project shows how, with my group, we were able to create a problem statement and find relevant evidence to support it. As far as my parts of the project goes, for next time I could be make my points of the connection between the claims and the thesis more clear. I could also ask for help more when I am not understanding something.

(Fixed Draft)
(Rough Draft)

Both of the pictures shown above are of a brainstorming activity we did in class. This outlines my problem solving skills by being able to identify certain issues.

Personal Research

The picture above are some questions that I have come up with for a personal research I was planning to conduct. The research focuses on how our cultural ignorance within school systems breeds racism. This shows how I am taking my knowledge from both of my classes and applying it to learn about different problems outside of the classroom.

Friendsgiving
Mexican Birthday Party Pt1
Mexican Birthday Party Pt2

All of the pictures above are of me and my friend group. At first glance, this does not seem to have anything to do with academics, but to me it does. I am lucky to be apart of a very diverse friend group with people of many different cultures and ethnicities. Therefore, I am able to learn more about how they view the world from their eyes rather than just my own. I grew up in a predominately black community, so the only culture I knew was my own and was ignorant to others. But now I am more knowledgeable and educated on others cultures. I learned that rice and sugar is not a common combination within the Asian community, I got to go to a QuinceaƱera for the first time and learn about how Mexican’s celebrate their 15/16th birthdays, and I also was able to try and taste food from different cultures. This shows me opening my understanding to others culture which will help with my research and also my classes since CODES is a diverse class of students.

Above is a draft to my collaborative research essay that was done in my research teams. I used this draft to illustrate how I used advice and strategies taught from CODE 121 to help shape my essay. This show how I am using my learning beyond the classroom to improve certain skills.
