Ethical Reasoning (20%)

This is an excerpt from my Week 1 Scientist Reflection. When writing this reflection, I was able to think about the different perspectives on the topic that were brought up in the class disscussion and be concise in my reflection when explaining my views. This shows that I was participating in the classroom discussion and actively listening to other people’s points.

This is an excerpt from one of the articles I reviewed in the Annotated Bibliography. I used my own previous knowledge to connect what was said in the research article to our research question.

This is an excerpt from the Final Research Paper. I used the information/knowledge I have from other CODES classes and experiences to tie into our central research question and the points we wanted to address. This is important because it gives another perspective other than my own biases and the articles we analyzed.

This is another excerpt from the Final Research Paper where I once again analyzed different perspective/studies than the ones that were necessarily ‘for’ our topic/reseach question. I did this in an effort to diversify the information and not bring in too much bias from all of the articles/citations being close in relation.

This is another excerpt from my Week 2 Reflection where I once again show the relation between by own personal experiences and the experiences that Kimmerer included in her writing. It was interesting and helpful tot talk about my own views and being able to see the similarities between my own thinking and that of Kimmerer.

This is an excerpt from my Final Research Paper where I’m talking about one of the research studies an article I read performed. While I personally may not agree with how the reserachers performed their study or the call to action that was mentioned in the artcile, I was still able to relate their studies to the topic of our research paper.

This is another excerpt from the Final Research Paper where I’m comparing the research paper to our Research Question and potential study to be done at SIUE. I was able to use some of my own prior knowledge on the education system and what drives people to become educators to relate the two and I believe that that brought up the credibility of the paper and the analysis.

This is an excerpt from the Ecology/Biodiversity Jigsaw Prep notes. This example shows how I’ve accurately analyzed the article and drawn information and conclusions from it. By being able to identify/define vocabulary and the importance of a research article, I will have more experience when it comes to having to repeat this process in the future, whether that’s in this class or in life.

This is an excerpt from the IK/TEK Jigsaw Prep Notes. This example shows how I was able to analyze the article and pull out parts of it in a concise and conprehensive manner. This is important for future class assignments, such as the Final Research Paper where I will need to follow the same process as the one shown here.

This is an excerpt from my notes on the Braiding Sweetgrass section (specifcally ‘In the Footsteps of Nanabozho: Becoming Indigenous to place’) of Braiding Sweetgrass. I used the reading guide to influence what I wrote and I was able to go deeper into the meaning behind the section. This is important for the future when analyzing articles and chapters in this class and outside of it.

This is an excerpt from a reflection part of the Final Project. I took previous knowledge from the IK/TEK Jigsaw and used it to find an article related to both that knowledge and to our Research Question. This is important because I was able to draw from the in-class activities and apply it to another project and it stll held its relevance.
Oral Communication (20%)

This is one of my slides off of the Final Project Presentation. In this slide, I wanted to be concise and to the point without making the slide itself too wordy or overwhelming for the viewer. Even with that, I was still able to put all of my thoughts onto the presentation and give the information that was needed for comprehension.

This is another one of my slides off of the Final Project Presentation. While the slide itself is simple, once again I didn’t want to overwhlem the audience with too many words. Therefore, I put my thoughts, reflections, and explainations of how the group got to our end Research Question and and verbally explained it to the class. This is a better way for me toorganize my thoughts while still having a concise presentation.

These are both pictures of my presentation notes for the Final Report Presentation. These notes are organized in a way so that I know what to say and what points to hit for each slide of the presentation. I did this because, once again, I didn’t want too many words on the presentation itself so therefore, I had to verbally communicate the information in a concise manner.

This is an excerpt from the Ecology/Biodiversity Jigsaw Prep notes. When reading the article, I was able to extract a lot of data and perspective that not many ther people may have been able to. I was then able to actively participate in the Jigsaws and gain more knowledge on the topic.

This is an excerpt from the Indigenous Knowledge Jigsaw Prep notes. Because of the definitions and significance that I was able to draw from the article, I was then able to effective and actively particiapte in the Jigsaw for the Indigenous Knowledge articles and learn more about the Indigenous culture itself.

This is an excerpt from the Planting Sweetgrass reading guide. When completing the assignment, I was able to pull both from my own experiences and those I read in the section of Braiding Sweetgrass. This expanded my world-view and helped me to understand more about different perspectives.

This is an excerpt from the Tending Sweetgrass reading guide. When reading and completing parts of the assgnment, I was able to relate myself and my experiences to those being talked about in the book, which helped me to do the reading guide and further understand the book itself.
