I’m From Springfield Illinois, but I’m originally from Chicago Ilinois. I was born In Nigeria on November 10, 2005, to two loving parents Sunday and Omobola Balogun. My name Ayodeji means Double Joy in the Yoruba Language. I go by Ayo for short because it’s easier to say. I love medicine, psychology and discovering new things.
My plans for SIUE include meeting a multitude of new diverse people. Graduating with a degree and experiencing new things. I major in pre-med and minor in psychology. My expected graduation year is 2027.
I plan on being a psychiatrist or psychologist, I like to analyze people’s behaviors and use knowledge of the mental world to better understand and approach the real world.
I’ve dealt with and seen the of effects of bad mental health firsthand. Coming from where I came from and growing up during the times, I grew up in, It was easy to see how a person grew up and the circumstances they are in greatly affects their mental fortitude. Thats why I want my career to involve mental health because I want to do what I can to help with attacking the problem of bad mental health.
I love sports, meeting new people, and listening to music. Anytime there is an opportunity to be active, I’ll be there. I like football, going to the gym, etc. I like to relax and have some independent time, but I’m also a social person. Everybody is different so meeting new people is like an adventure. My favorite artists are Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake.
Some obstacles I’ve had to overcome are Covid, moving to and getting accustomed to America and prioritizing the right things. Covid like with everyone else really affected me. Getting things right in a new country also has been an obstacle. Growing up sometimes I would prioritize the wrong things but over time I believe I’ve learned how to prioritize the right things. I’m thankful to God and my parents that I was able to overcome all these obstacles.
