I would like to stay involved on the SIUE campus as much as I can throughout these next 4 years. I am a Community Oriented Digital Engagement Scholar (C.O.D.E.S.) and a 2023 Summer Success Program participant.  The activities that I am currently involved in are the Hispanic Student Union and Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. I am a History major with a concentration in Secondary Education. I am also pursuing a double minor in Social Studies Education and Spanish. My goal is to work as a high school teacher, specifically U.S. History. I would like to eventually earn my certification in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) while getting my Masters in Teacher Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction.

I will often have people ask me why I chose to pursue education, to which I would like to say it is an acquired taste. Teaching is not for everyone and I definitely did not think I was going to be a teacher when I was younger. I am often reminded of the politics of teaching or the pay and how it is so hard to make money in education. My response is always that I am not in in for the money, I am in it to teach content I am passionate about while also being an advocate for students. I had some amazing teachers throughout my middle school and high school career who advocated for me and my goal is to create an environment where students feel like they are safe to come and talk to me. I want to advocate for students the way my teachers advocated for me.

Aside from school and work, my favorite hobbies include reading, dancing, shopping, and watching movies/T.V. Shows. My favorite book series is The Hunger Games and my favorite shows are currently Young Sheldon and the Big Bang Theory. I love music too and cannot go anywhere without my headphones. I am a big country music and Taylor Swift fan.
