Template for a Class Portfolio

Introduction

I feel like I am learning quite a lot in this first semester in CODES. I have had awesome opportunities and have really been given a chance to work and learn in ways I hadn’t before. I really enjoy working with my research team, the transition went a lot smoother than I had expected it to. I enjoy the topics I have been able to explore and collaborating with my research team. We have good conversations and I feel like we had a very smooth time collaborating effectively while also not being too overwhelmed.

Goal 1 (10%)

I will use my historical knowledge and knowledge of other viewpoints and experiences to develop solutions and advocate for appropriate action to be taken in complex problems. 

I am very excited to keep building on this goal. I have really been able to apply my knowledge of immigration patterns in America and the history of immigration to some of my work in both CODE 120 and 121. In my final presentation in CODE 121 I was able to use my knowledge and apply it in a historical context to the project. I talked about the impact of immigrants in communities and the positives and also negatives. Our final research project in CODE 120 really allowed me to focus on this goal as I got to use my knowledge of history and directly relate it bak to what we are focused on in class.

Goal 2 (20%)

I will use various search strategies and information databases to find and research using reliable sources. 

I have been using a lot of new strategies to research and I have been doing my research in a lot of different places. In CODE 120, we watched videos as a group that were very helpful and I was even able to add the channel to the bibliography I have going. Using sources that aren’t articles is pretty new to me. In high school I was very hesitant to stray away from using readings from Google and Google Scholar to use my research, but I am very glad that I am breaking out of that shell and learning more effective strategies.

Goal 3 (30%)

When presenting information orally, my main ideas and message will be clearly understood with strong supporting material to accompany it.

Goal 4 (30%)

When reading and researching, I will consider the value of the information in various contexts and issues where it might be helpful.

Goal 5 (10%)

when putting my findings and ideas into writing, I will use language that is not only professional but can also be understood easily by my audience. This will help keep my audience engaged in my findings and reduce confusion
