By establishing that sweetgrass is planted using its roots, not seeds, the author is symbolizing a deeper link to the past. This passes along the idea that cultural practices and tradition are best preserved and passed on through generations through direct personal connections. The quote makes point of the importance of continuity and connection in nurturing something valuable. The idea of sweetgrass thriving in disturbed edges could be a comparison to native assimilation. “Disturbed edges” gives the idea that sweetgrass can grow and thrive through various different challengesand changes, just how indigenous people were forced to assimilate to western culture but still managed to keep parts of the culture alive and thriving in order to pass down to later generations.

. Money makes for simple transactions, which can make different kinds of exchanges much easier, but it can lack in fostering a genuine kind of exchange with the opportunity of reciprocity. Furthermore, I don’t think it is common for people in our society to consume in a responsible way that does justice to the environment and the lives we take because over consumerism is so normalized in our society to the point that even products that are supposed to be sustainable just become not.

Addressing the topic of slavery in public schools has come with many criticisms; but it is especially important for schools to talk about hard history. The history of African Americans and slavery are facts, not opinions; therefore, they are non-refutable.

We aimed to discover the shadows on Saint Louis and its educational systems. With further research, data collection, and experimentation we could gain more knowledge of the contemporary effects and search for ways to effectively tell the “unrevealed secrets” because essentially that will be the missing piece to the puzzle to revitalize Saint Louis and its educational system.
